235/45/17 rear 215/45/17 front 2wd cosworth rubbing issues?
I’ve just brought some compomotive mo5s 7.5x17 ET37 they are fitted with 235/45/17 on the rears and 215/45/17 on the front tyres are toyo r888s which are a little wider then Normal tyres I’ve had a look on the forum and found a red spah that was running 8x17 235/45/17 with et40 but had a 6 degree beam just wondering if I’m likely to have any issues with rubbing? Also I’m on avo adjustable coilovers. Thanks
I've got 8 x 17 on the back with 235/40/17 and had to beat my wheel arch lip flat to get them to clear.
45 sidewall will make them quite tall compared to a 40
What offest are yours buddy? my main concern was rubbing on the inside of the car (rear shock) I’m not to worried about height as I’ve seen saphs with 19” wheels before and loads of people have 18” wheels
To be honest I didn’t even give the front a thought luckily I’ve got adjustable coilovers I need to run my engine in for next 500 miles or so may have to change tyres after that if there are any issues I think 215 45 17 are only 22mm bigger than the 215 40 17 so 11mm higher hopefuly I can adjust the suspension to suit the r888s that are on the comps I brought as they have loads of life in the would be a shame to have to change them Ł I’ll post up my findings
45 profile is just too big on 17s.
40 is where they should be and that is still bigger than std rollin* radius.
I run 235/40 17 all round but arch work is definitely needed, and the reason people stay with skinny fronts (205 or 215) is because of arch clearance on the front.
I know it’s slightly too big and the front are 215 I’ve seen a couple of picture of Sierra track cars that look like they are running a 45 profile with 17” wheels but I don’t know what arch work they have had done and the trouble is I want a tire like r888 or ns2r and they only seem to do them in a 205 40 17 and my rims are 7.5j so 205 is abit stretched which i don’t like but I did see a
sierra on here with 19” tsw pace wheels I think I’m just going to have to fit them and see what’s the biggest thing is when I do put my foot down being a 2wd the rear is really going to kick down on the wheels
I think you will be ok as your Saff is not to low. Mine is lowered by 35mm and has 17x7.5 alloys with 215/40/17 Federal RSR tyres and without having rolled arches they would rub.
I hope so worst case senario I will change the rears to 215 45 17 I want to keep the ride as comfortable as possible without compramising too much grip
