It looks like whatever is being used by Forscan to connect to the Elm adapter (laptop?) is not getting a good enough connection for long enough to recognise the vehicle.

i eventually got everything working, mainly by using youtube

i had to uninstal the old version of forscan, reinstal the new version, get it set up, change the setting for the reader and all sorts, plus then start the scan in ms mode before it would recognise stuff, then switch it to hs mode for it to work

however, seeing as i bought the kit way way back in prehistoric times, it won't now work fully with my car

hence my Ł50 amazon from america purchase of a full on bit of kit to plug and play

however, i'm still not so sure on what i'm supposed to change as not all the modules have appeared, hence my purchase, i don't appear to have a body control module listed so i can't change anything

and all i wanted to do was turn on my puddle lights, would have been cheaper to drive to someones house and get them to do it for a 6 pack

I think I paid about 8 quid for my forscan adapter. Mine has a switch on the side that you have to use to read more faults on the car. Its simple software but has helped me out when I had problems with the euro car parts special dpf that was on the car.

2 year old car though mate, can't see half the things i need to see with that same switch

on the monde it's easy enough with a simple tool, same with the 2006 fiesta, but scroll forward to a 2018 focus and it's beyond it's capabilities

If the vehicle is pretty new like 2018...then options will be more limited.

It takes time for the aftermarket to sort their scantools out. And if the product is generic or chinese copies etc...it might be several years out of date.

Gendan list a few options, but some only state up to around 2016

https://www.gendan.co.uk/category_126.html

As you mention an American purchase....that too may not guarantee fully functional with EU vehicles, even if they should be the same.

So it's turned up
And everything works
Apart from the stuff that doesn't
Because no one is taking to me over there or sharing my questing about how I'm supposed to get into stuff that I can't find
I know what to change, but not how to get into it
Argh
And they are mainly Americans taking about trucks
But they alai have stuff about a 2021 kuga so it's there somewhere

Did you sort this? May I ask which version of app you are using? Fone / Laptop? Which / how are you connecting ? ie which dongle are you using? Wifi? Bluetooth?

forscan best works with VGATE obd bluetooth dongle - iphone will cause probs - one of the main reasons I switched to an android fone - any laptop with bluetooth also works and the program is best used on laptop = sorry to lazy to read above in detail as i got Firebase Z on pause he he -

I found that using my Ford IDS as the connector for FORScan gives me the best of both worlds as it does all the switching internally and gives full options.

might find that releases the other options for your car as well?
