Fair enough it's incredibly low mileage but are they really selling for that kind of money ?
Personally I can't see it

Been for sale for ages like most of them for that kind of money when you get upto the value eg sapphires for 25k area you can have your pick and there is always cars for that money like the escorts for 50k up over there are plenty about you no so there may sell but most just hang about for months and even years you no
Thats mad and ultra low mileage, pristine RS500 money for me, love the escort cossies but thats surly a trader chancing it. Same silly prices now with RS Turbos https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Esco...sAAOSw09ZdQDvQ
Tbh it probably will sell for around that figure with that mileage, why on Earth someone bought it new just to sit it in a garage and not use it is sad imo, total waste of a car. Could just buy a large picture and stick it on your wall as you’ll get the same use out of it lol.
Now with cars getting up to the 25yr rule for importation into America you will find stuff is bought and shipped out there.
I saw a series 1 and 2 has made its way over to Washington state already. I want to shift a couple of old fords over to my wifes in America at some point once the corona lockdowns lighten up.

I think the thing is with cars like that is, can you find another one? A YouTuber I know has done a video on the 22B and it's immaculate. The rear has never been sat in and it still has some of the protective coverings on it from when it was delivered. More used 22Bs are selling for £100k, so it's still crazy money but, for some collectors, the chance to own a low mileage, totally original car is worth a LOT of money. Out of the 400-odd 22Bs built, how many are in that condition? A car like that is probably pretty unique.
To us, it's ridiculous and a waste, but there is a big collector market out there. A lot of those people don't care about driving the car, they care about having it in their collection and are quite happy looking at it, knowing it's one of the very best or most original in the world. Many of them have more than enough money to pay for it. Let's face it, £85k for the Escort, or even £300k for the Impreza isn't actually that much money if you have a collection of cars running into millions, as some of these folks do.
The thing is, most of us remember these cars as £15-20k, things that you could buy, use, abuse and modify, but they've gone beyond that now and are starting to attract the attention of serious collectors. That's a very different world to the one most of us live in.

There was an MK2 RS2000 with under one thousand miles that sold at auction a few years ago for nearly £100 000 so in that respect the Subaru is good value as it’s a much rarer car.
