Front wheel bearing started rumbling on my C class....
What would your rough guess as to what the cost would be to replace both front bearings using genuine parts at an independent specialist...?

3.4 hours at 65 an hour..... Total price with parts and vat 659....
No doubt Glenn will be on shortly to tell me that he could get all 4 done on his mondeo..... Have a night oot on toon and still have change to treat his lass to a bag of chips and a taxi home for less than that ....
If you think cosworth tax is bad..... Try AMG tax..but after reading some of the related threads below maybe its a false economy to buy motor factor parts .... Especially the way I drive..

That’s the price you pay for running about in a top spec motor.
Anyone can buy cars like that, that’s the easy bit, it’s maintaining them and when they go wrong people realise you need deep pockets.
The Glenn comment cracked me up though lol
Cheers Paul

I used to have a c36 amg and it failed the mot on emissions as the centre box was cracked and drawing in air. Amg part no after market ones 2600 lol. I took it off and my dad welded it up as it was stainless

I've done 10000 miles since I got it in November.... 10000 hard miles.... The last owner did less in the 3 years he owned it... Bushes and ball joints are at the age to go.... But much of the suspension and brakes were replaced by him last year. ... An exhaust is 6500 quid though so did check that was in fine condition.... .....

£659 for two wheel bearings is absolutely ridiculous. Just cos its a fancy car shouldn't make much difference - its just bloody wheel bearings, the same as every other car on the road. Yes they will be slightly better than most but not that much.
The cost of those parts is just Mercedes taking the piss pure and simple.

The parts themselves are 161 quid each... ... That's both front hubs with new bearings inside... Grease at 7 quid.... 3.4 hours labour at 65 quid per hour and 110 or so vat....
To be fair to Mercedes.... It is a dam good car and they do have to pay for those fancy showrooms full of slick haired homos in pointy shoes somehow....

Why do you think only the rich drive lambos and Ferrari’s, cos they can afford to, otherwise everyone would have one.

C class is a mid range car so the Ford equivalent would be the focus...... What would you expect to pay to get 2 front wheel bearings/hubs on a focus RS at an independent garage using genuine parts?
That’s the issue with these cars, cheap to buy but parts are still that of a 50/60k car.
Same with M cars etc
Last Range Rover I had previous owner had both turbos replaced by main dealer and bill was 6.5k

Eye watering indeed! But what do you actually get for 16k? Oil, filters, plugs, a good general check over, fault diagnosis, software update. Surely that doesn't cost 16k or am I missing something?
I guess they think if you can afford a car that's millions then £16k for a service is good value 🤣😂
That is just off the scale. Its a fucking wheel bearing for fuck sake! Unless of course if it is made out of some hugely exotic material.

True.... Its pretty unlikely any car manufacturer will have custom made bearings..... Theres bound to be suitable bearings off the shelf to the right spec in their parts catalogue...
If the bearings were made out of something really different at that price they should have a lifetime guarantee on them!!! Piss take pure and simple!!
