Was wondering if there is any guides on PF on how to fit the correct seals, weather stripping, beading, rubber components & apply correct adhesives etc when fitting front and rear screens? I want to keep to original as possible as this is permanent and might as well do it good n proper.
Its taken me a good two months just to get most of the original rubber components and up to a clean / semi restored finish to fit my front and rear screens.
1A - Spacer - Windscreen Glass Opening / 5010254
3 - Moulding - Windshield - I Have two versions a small and a large, not sure which to use
Parts Required to order:
1 - Glass - Windscreen
Anything to look out for? I'm ordering through a specialist who will also fit.
2 - Spacer
According to the list there are 5 variations.
What size do I order?
Is this stuck down with the window adhesive?
I assume this is positioned on the bottom middle of the channel
Front screen Notes:
For fitment it says to place the outer beading together with the screen during installation. I was thinking to coat this with a silicone spray / sealer as I don't want the adhesive to bond with this rubber component. Should I need to replace the screen later for whatever reason i can recover this and reuse. Same goes for the inner beading. These original items are hard to come by, even used ones. What is recommend?
Again same question reading fitment of the rubber components as per the front?
Part No 12 inner beading appears different to the type I have. The one I have only comes across the top and side channels, nothing along the bottom. Is this correct / of concern? What is recommended?
The rear screen is off and has blobs of old hard adhesive stuck to the black lining of the screen. What is the best way or method to clean this off without scratching damaging this black lining?
Do the C-Pillar outer trims need to be installed / put on when installing the rear screen?
Lastly I have a louver that needs to go on the outside of the rear screen and uses like plastic locking tabs / pins and hinges. When I removed them off another vehicle they used like a Sika Flex / Silicone adhesive to stick on. I was thinking to mark and lightly sand the glass on those areas to stick these items to so they don't come off hence holding the louver in place. What is recommended?
Any recommendations / advice will be greatly appreciated. I can post some pics if need be.
Yep that looks old like Sierra inner trim. You doing the fit yourself far simpler to let a good windscreen fitter do it
Yep going to outsource the fitment. Only getting the parts ready for the specialist to do everything one go. It has been a lot of searching and prep work to get these parts in good condition. Unfortunately in SA, windscreen fitters don't go this far to get these old parts and they will fit any universal type available or if it can be bough direct from dealership / agents. I want the OEM seals / beading even if it is used but still usable.
Can anyone tell me or show me where these spacer blocks go, and advise what size to use. I've seen in other service books that there are two on either side of the screen and have a profile?
Please could any of the the guys who are working on their Sapph builds, kindly post up nice clear close up photos of the bottom edge of the screen. I would like to see where these rubber spaces are installed between the glass and the scuttle panel. Ive looked and hunthing through a few different threads and no clear close ups I can see.
