Question New owner help

All being well I pick up my 2wd Sapphire Cosworth rolling shell next weekend. It needs some work, welding and paint. As well as finding an engine, diff and gearbox. I have a few questions...

Do Ford still sell parts for these?
How many parts are the same for the standard Sapphire and the Cosworth Sapphire?
Any other good places you recommend for parts?

Thanks

Darren

At the risk of being rude was parts not part of your plan when buying a rolling shell? 🤔

Mechanically, as you can appreciate they share nothing in common with lesser models.

Trim wise they are based on a Ghia, hence the switch gear is the same.

Parts have been unavailable for some time and it's getting harder and harder to find them, as most of the RS breakers no longer exist.

As such, it's a case of looking round in community's such as this.

Hi Darren,I posted a thread on here a while back about spares for Sapphire Cosworths from Ford. I went to a huge Ford Spares place to pick up some parts for someone in the US for his car and while I was there asked if they still had any new old stock for Sapphire Cosworths. The guy thought it was highly amusing and showed me on his massive stock list what they had, not one single item!!! All it said was try owners clubs etc!!! You may find some pattern parts but even that is drying up. It will be difficult if you need lots of parts and if you do find any new old stock be prepared for a shock at some of the crazy prices they sell for!!

Some 15 years ago I tried buying some new parts from Ford for my Sierra Cosworth 4x4.
Ford told me: Sorry but the car is older than 10 years. We don't sell any parts anymore.
I then said, O.K., I'll use the parts from the Escort Cosworth, that's not 10 years old.
And Ford said: We know, but these parts are out of stock and we are not going to order a new batch.

So, don't expect to find many new parts.

Depends on how friendly you local Ford place is, a lot of them can't be arsed to look properly.

It's also a big help if you have the FINIS number as it saves them some work,

Ask them if they have the EDIX system, my local place used to have it and they found parts all over Europe that were not available here, they gave me the contact details and I had to sort it out myself.

Perhaps a donor car would be best, a rotten one with to much required to save or a replica??

I've had mine 3yrs now and if it wasn't for a friend of a friend or calling a breakers just as one rolled in id of been struggling.

Standard parts or original ford items are in short supply and highly sort after and I'm sure most will agree that they have items "just incase" stashed away as i know i have.

Posting a list up around various forums/social media will get you a good response but be prepared to pay good money for good parts.

Good look in you rebuild..

I've seen places asking £150+ for a 2WD Sapphire bonnet, and then standard Sapphire bonnets advertised for £50. They're the same part surely?

What you will see with any parts that have come from a genuine Sapphire cosworth us long term owners call the " Cossie Tax". Some greedy people just think of a number then treble it and their attitude is " Fuck You Jack if you want it then that is what you will have to pay" You are new to Saff ownership and this is what you will be up against when trying to source the parts you need.I have sold various parts , given some away with just a charity donation and postage costs but trying to get value for money now is getting harder and harder!!

No there not the 2wd saff bonnet has a lip that raises up in front of the scuttle panel there pretty hard to get now hence expensive as everyone binned them for 4x4 ones. The normal Sierra ones lip angles down.
