The first of a few posts, forgot what a p.i.t.a. these could be. Car nearly finished. Push down the flap, very stiff. Went down with a good shove, no resistance coming back. Plunger stuck? Eventually frees itself and comes back. Same in two other units in the garage but they are well stuck. Last time I tried to get the car going had 5 fuel distribution units, either pissing fuel or plunger stuck.
Tried taking one apart, nightmare with 30 year old torx bolts.
Any chance this will free up with fuel pressure or is it goosed?
Last time I enquired was near 400 quid for an overhaul with no guarantee.
Between this and a stripped thread on one of the studs from the elbow to the exhaust, will be glad to see the back of the thing.
These units are a pain mate when stood for long periods. I had the same problem wen I built my last rst, bought a reckoned mint unit and it didn’t work at all. I’d try lubing one up and getting it moving freely and trying it.
Took one unit apart and got the pin moving freely. However to do this I had to hammer it out the top. Lubed it, replaced top cap and assembled. Would rather have done it with new o-rings etc but hey, at least I know now how it comes apart.
Went to remove the other two units from the 'airbox' ? guess what, two torx came out with difficulty, third in both cases had to be drilled out. One pin jammed solid, more hopeful of the next one which is at least moving if slowly. Had enough for one day.
Looking at the repair kits for these, there's no holes in the gasket/diaphram for the spring retainers? Instructions on the Solavox web site are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Would help greatly if the supplied a new washer for under the nut that holds the middle section in place .
I’ve never had one apart myself mate so couldn’t say how there suppose to fit together/work. I did come across a good vid on youtube of someone servicing one of these units il see if I can find it.
Hi Daz, took the bottom brass nut of two units, skooshed copiuos amounts of WD 40 into where the fuel enters and down the pins, bingo, one pin pulled out no problem. Not tried the better unit but hopeful this can be achieved without taking them apart. Having rebuild one at least I know what I'm dealing with so might be lucky. Got new ABS belts and rive shafts in, hubs and brake disc & calipers on.... have to take half of it to bits tomorrow to get the soddin anti roll bar on,lol. Boy it's fun. Photos manyana.
