Default Alarm goes off randomly

Hi there, thanks for the add.

I currently drive a 2006 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI, I have owned the car since last August but over the last few months I’ve had a bit of trouble with the alarm.

It started going off randomly almost every time I would lock the car (a few hours after not straight away). So I don’t a bit of research and was told it could be the bonnet latch (common fault). After removing the latch, cleaning it and replacing it I thought this cured the problem, it hasn’t.

I’ve had my local mechanic take a look and he plugged in his engine diagnosis machine and got into the system of the car (hoping to find a fault with the doors or anything related to the alarm but found nothing), he also informed me that water could have got into the back of the fuse box (another common fault).
I removed the fuse box, stripped it down and found that the inside was like new (no water damage at all). So I sprayed it with electing contact cleaner hoping this will work before reconnecting back it back into the car.

Still not very optimistic doing this, I was hoping that there was somebody who may have come across this or even somebody who used to work for Ford that could advise me what this problem is. Online research is kind of a dead end.

Sorry it’s long winded but I wanted to make it as clear as possible to make it easier to get it resolved.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

If you had the car on Ford IDS diag system it will tell you exactly what the alarms recent trifggers were from.

Bonnet switches are very common fail points though.

Would I need to go to a Ford garage for that? I had all the door locks etc checked and they all seemed to be okay

Sadly yeah, unless you can find an independent Ford repairer.

On some Fords you can do a GEM module self test which does check all the door locks and switches open/closed, might be worth a Google/You tube search

It's for a Mondeo but should work on Focus mk2 as well

Hopefully yes, there's a menu in IDS to go into to check the alarm triggers if I remember correctly (Been a while)

Have you tried bridging the bonnet switch with a paper clip and taping it up and leaving it disconnected for a day or 2 to see if the alarm still goes off?

Okay that’s great. I was told about bridging the bonnet catch but as I said, the car was sat for about 2 weeks and it only happened towards the end, surely if it was the bonnet catch it would happen towards the start? Sorry if this didn’t make too much sense

I will try to bridge but again my only concern with that is if it was the bonnet catch would not do it all the time, not after say 2 weeks of being parked up?
