Hi I know this is probably a daft question to ask in the past I have painted the hub of the disk and the outside edge with hamerite smooth can you paint the face of the disk so that the grooves don’t rust and if I painted the full disk will the paint remove itself once you brake. So the paint would stay in the grooves and the face of the disk would revert back to steel which is what I want all help would be great fully received thanks

Anyway, just incase it is, disks only 'rust' when they sit unused for a day or so and it comes off when you use them. Why would it be an issue.

Wd40 would stop them rusting....just would stop them stopping too

 

To be fair discs can be painted from factory, brembo discs are for starters, comline I’ve also used are painted.

i don’t think he’s wanting to paint them every time he stops driving 🤣

paint them, then on first outing be aware you’ll be rubbing the paint off the discs, I’m guessing they will be new pads and discs anyway so you’ll be bedding stuff in.

it also depends on your driving, hammerite may burn off if you get the brakes really hot, VHT paint might be necessary if they are.

the paint may stay in grooves if prepped properly, I’d be inclined to use a thinner pant than hammerite tbh.

 

My mate did that to me when I did motocross we had prepared the bike in the week and he put WD40 on the front and rear brakes . I went down the run off to the start gate and I went straight into the line up waiting to go to the gate . To say I got a round of fucks from the lads at the gate was a understatement . And then I gave my spanner man a round of fucks when I got back to the van . Good stuff WD40 😂

 

I not bothered about the disk rusting i understand that the rust comes off when you brake I just meant the groves in the disk always have surface rust on I have seen people do it before but I wasn’t sure if it would damage the pads

 

why not just use a thin brush to paint in the grooves? then you don't need to worry about burning off paint or ruining pads.

 

that’s what. I was thinking of doing all it is is I have done the hubs and the outer lip before but due to age there is signs of rust coming through the silver now so was going to do them again and thought about the grooves I think I’ll try a thin brush and just paint the hubs again thanks

 

Depending how often you take your car out and how hard you brake, discs can get very hot so use a paint that is heat resistant or it will burn off pretty quickly.

 

Or paint the full face then get them skimmed.
