Default Transit connect rear shock removal

Hi,

Wonder if someone can help please?
Have a 2008 transit connect that's been lowered and fitted with Gaz shocks on the rear - one of them has gone pop
I'm trying to remove the lower shock bolt, but it seems too long and catches the u-bracket for the rear beam. Do I need to drop the rear beam to release the lower shock bolt? or is there a knack to it i'm missing?

Thanks in advance!
Scott

If anything like my Golf, you undo the top bolt first to lower the whole unit which allows you to remove the lower bolt
