Talking How to make Fiesta MK3 speedometer work with MTX75?

Hi All,

Question is in the title. Has anyone ever put mtx75 in their mk3 or mk3,5 fiesta and then made it work with the original fiesta mk3 speedometer? If so, how?

Thanks

i may be wrong but this is how i see it - the mtx75 uses the speed sensor for the speedo as when i disconnect mine the speedo doesnt work - im then guessing the gearbox you used originally also had a speed sensor? if so just match the connector for the speed sensor - you may and probably have to look at wiring diagrams as they will be different - hopefully the fiesta , if it has a speed sensor originally , will also be 3 pin...that all may be wrong ...hopefully someone can shed light?

Mk3 fiesta still a speedo cable?

My mk4 escort will have the speedo working with a MTX75 from a Focus RS later in spring.

We have made a box that takes the signal from the gearbox speed sensor and via a raspberry Pi computer it controls a motor attached to the speedo cable. Fully tested on the bench and fully calibrate able via Smart phone.

Unfortunately, it is a 2 pin and the signal is completely different as far as i know.

Could you please share some more details about this setup please?

That's the unit. Like I say a raspberry pi mini computer runs it all. Cant remember the spec of the motor, think its brushless.

My mate that built it wrote a program to operate it. Taking the pulses from the gearbox sensor and converting it to motor speed to spin the speedo cable to the appropriate speed. This is fully calibrateable via smart phone.

I'm just on with fitting another MTX75 in the car at the minute then as soon as lockdown eaes the box of tricks will be fitted.

It's been fully tested on a test bed using a pulse generator.

Depending on what mtx75 gearbox your using some of them have mechanical speedo drives. i put a standard focus (mechanical speedo) bell housing onto a focus rs box then use the original speedo and cable.

That is absolutely brilliant! Would you make another set to sell, if so, what would this cost?

Thanks Mate, i have a MK1 Focus RS box at the moment, so I might go down this route too. Do you know what other models used the older style bell housing? Sorry, just to be clear, did you end up using the MK3 fiesta speedo and cable or MK1 focus speedo and cable?

The tricky bit was getting the part for the cable to attach to the motor made. It was basically my pal who works in the aerospace industry calling a couple of favours in. That part was made over a couple of dinner times. 😉
