transit connect cutting out
hi,im looking for help with a 2006 tdci connect.1753 euro 3.180k. the glow plug lights flashes ,then the van cuts out. i reset it by switching the ignition off /on. this can happen quite a lot on a short run. i used a maxiscan ms300 & got dtc code p0251 ( injection pump metering control a) i have since fitted a new fuel filter(,old 1dirty, but no swarf/metal bits). i did find the pipe from the air filter to the turbo badly split. which will be replaced soon.( taped for the moment) what can the problem/s be. the van starts & ticks over fine.little bit of black smoke when revved. any ideas? thank you. steve.

hi , you might know the van. it was bought from rydal road darlington, .on sunday. guy said fuel pump might be blocked. it cut out 7 times on the a1 back to hebburn. just need to get it sorted m8. cheers, steve.

hi, still no help or advice ? this po251 code seems to be very common on the tdci diesel ford.. have replaced fuel filter,checked for loose/chaffed wiring etc. van is still cutting out with glowplug light flashing . this happens after 1/4 mile starting from cold. & under 30 mph. someone must know exactly what the problem is. maybe imv needs replaced ? awaiting replies. cheers, steve.
steve i think these these have the electric accelerator pedal ,which can go duff on them .worth a shot .i think the potentiometer can get dirty on them and you may be able to clean it
hi, thank you for the advice re- the pedal ive had focus cars with the same, but never had problems.. will prob try & get 1 at the scrappy.could be that. anyone help with most common fault which causes po251 code. cheers guys. steve.

hi, thank you for the advice. i have already looked.. but will change fuel metering solenoid, the 1 with the brown plug, see if that cures it. if not its a trip to a diesel specialist with the proper equipment. cheers m8. steve.

hi, just a update. removed imv solenoid, tested on workbench, plunger is moving in & out when power supplied to it. so now refitted. done a leak off test. no 1 injector return is filling its bottle a lot quicker than 2,3,&4. 1 inch of fuel in no 1 . the rest under 1/4 inch ( just as a rough check) didnt measure quantity. which looks like no 1 injector is faulty. also new fuel filter fitted. , switched ignition on. glow plug light was flashing ( never did that previously) went off after 30 seconds. cant start engine at the moment as 2 of the return pipes were brittle/leaking. so will fit full new set.. prob fit new fuel pressure sensor as well. no swarf or dirt in the pipes. just hope it may be no 1 injector causing the engine cut out & the dreaded po251 code. & not the fuel injectiion pump. ! regards, steve.
Back in the day fitted more injectors than fuel pumps.
Pleased you've done a leak off test , should be good with a no1 injector, just need it coded in!
