Default ESCORT GTI ENGINES

are they easy to do a head gasket on?
well more like is it a dear job to do by a garage?

engine has done at least 150k now so wondering if it might just be better to stick another lump in there.cant be that dear getting a good secondhand lump

its just i can have my mates old work horse, its in quite good nick,r reg gti,and the silly coont only just spent 700 on having a new box and clutch fitted.so i surpose me being able to get it free aint such a sad deal i wouldn't have thought

just had a look on autotrader and the cheapest one i can see within a 40 mile radius is 1700 and then the next one jumps to 2 grand

2nd hand lumps can come up for about 150-200 at the lowest ive seen mate, but obviously probly about the same mileage as what uve already got

and yeah a 2.0 will go in with a few mods to mounts etc.

but then again if the engine aint smoking etc and is in good nick, then they will run fro miles yet

head gasket aint a hard job (well no harder than any other) but there is one basteward bolt on the inlet manifold that takes some time to do

head gaskets aint too hard mate, and if you go for the 2.0l conversion let me know and ill tell you what needs doing, not that hard either.

as for a garage doing it, they will charge you £300 +

bring it to me and ill do it for £150

or fit the 2.0l for £250
