Well today (finally) after buying bigger brakes a while ago I decided that the rear brake callipers and discs should be fitted as the front were fitted ages ago when I bought the setup. Calipers and discs all came off easily with no problems. The new brakes and discs were all fitted, few issues but all good. When we started bleeding the brakes fluid started coming out of the handbrake part where cable fits onto. Stripped them apart and it looks like there is possibly an O ring missing in the handbrake connection. So unable to fix it, everything on the rear had to be removed and put back to how it was. Hopefully Hi-Spec can repair them for me, then I can try again, they came of an ex show car so not brand new. Yes I know they are Hi-Spec, but I couldn't resit adding a Brembo sticker
Do those rear calipers have a mechanical handbrake? And what size pistons do they have? As the balance between front and rear brakes is really important.
Good size discs youve got there. Should pull up very well indeed. Plus you,ll get good money for your old rear 4x4 spec rear calipers should you want to sell them on.
Front brakes is really the next thing i need to upgrade on my cossie.
Yours looks great, very purposeful and motorsporty filling the space behind your comps. Nothing wrong with the sticker it all looks right to me. Nice
Disc diameter is indeed important, but the size and number of the brake pistons is even more important. And the rear only needs a relatively small piston surface. So if you fit calipers that are usually fitted to the front of a car they will most likely be too big for the rear.
The brake setup I have is actually a complete front and rear setup so should all be fine.
Nothing to modify as all made by Hi-Spec specifically as a kit for the 4x4
I didnt know Hi-Spec made rear kits. I also couldnt find them on their website. But anyway, I would still check if the brake balance is going to be ok. I have seen a cossie being written off due to the rears locking up because of too big rear calipers.
You can use this calculator to compare the brake balance. I used it to compare standard with my upgraded setup. If you fill it in it gives 63.3% bias to the front wheels. With my upgraded setup the front bias should be 67.9%, so no increased risk of locking up the rear wheels.
Quite some people have 362 mm AP 6 pots on the front with 330 mm 4 pots on the rear. I have also checked what that gives and it only gives a front bias of 52.8%, which in my opinion is very dangerous.
