Looking into getting a stand alone ECU to run my 520hp engine
looked at Link but prices are around 2850
supply fitted with loom and injectors
Does this seem high
what are others running or comments on the link system appreciated

It will be very expensive if they are not very good lol. Choose your mapper carefully and pay what they ask would be my advice.

Emtron for me. When looking at aftermarket units you need to ask them what are they suppling and how are they fitting it. I have seen some shocking work.

Ł2850 for an ecu/injectors and a loom supplied and fitted is very cheap. Remember 20% of that is VAT but then the OE ECU and loom would do 500hp just add injectors and a map sensor to your well built engine.

I know a P8 will run the car for around 1k
But I think with the latest aftermarket stuff out there it will transform the car
ive not been in a car with aftermarket ECU so can’t compare the difference

 

If you took a fully functioning P8/loom/injectors etc all working perfect, remove it and fit an aftermarket ecu it will not feel any different. People only tend to fit aftermarket to replaced failed expensive systems, that it why replace a 30 year old ecu with a 30 yr old ecu or that you want more functions and control over more additional outputs/inputs. E.G drive by wire, safety cut outs, logging etc.

 

Bare in mind you will get decent money back for your standard stuff

 

I have sold all the original it was a L6 and the loom wasn’t the best tbh
so didn’t get much for it.

 

I'm running a Link G4+ Thunder on my cossie.
Reason for changing it was down to reliability as all new sensors off the shelf rather than copies of the originals as can't buy genuine 3bar maps sensor new. Now have wide band lambda control, coil on plug, Ecu controlled boost.
The car runs and drives so much better as tuning can be much more accurate then on older stuff and also engine protection strategies like oil pressure, fuel pressure and others give peace of mind.

All that said, it will only be as good as the person mapping it so regardless of what Ecu you go for, make sure the person doing the mapping has loads of experience and is excellent with the brand you decide to go for.

A fancy aftermarket Ecu is only as good as the person putting the info in to the Ecu at the end of the day !
