Hi all,

Last weekend I started the engine of my Sierra Cosworth 4x4 after 6 months and it now suddenly produces big blue smoke. It happens after revving from idle and than shut the throttle. It doesnt smoke at startup. I drove it for about 8 miles and couldnt see any smoke coming from the exhaust. It has never done this before.
I have an almost brand new T34 and I took off the hose from the turbo outlet to the intercooler. It was totally dry not a sign of oil. The engine has only done about 60.000 miles

Could this be from standing too long and not starting it up during winter?

Hope someone has a clue.

 

Sounds like some oil settled somewhere. I would put 500 miles on it but keep an eye on the oil levels

 

Valve stem oil seals???.

 

If the valve stem oil seals are no good it allows oil to seep past them and on start up you would get blue smoke but YBJ says there is no smoke on start up so seems unlikely Glenn?

 

This weekend I will start her up again and look for any blue smoke from the exhaust.

Last weekend I did some testing again. First cold start up, let it run for about 10 seconds and then rev it a bit. Repeated this a few times. Than put the engine off and repeated this procedure after half an hour. No sign of any blue smoke.
Let the engine run for a while to warm up and did the same thing. Revved a bit but still no blue smoke. Than I went for a quick drive like I did the week before. But after that also still no sign of any blue smoke.
I am glad for this although it still feels a little strange. In the last few weeks I had removed a few engine intake bits so I could change the cambelt. Maybe there have been some oil or something getting in the open parts. Just a quess...

So I will keep an eye on it to see if it stays away. Thanks for your support!

 

From the way you have tested it again everything seems ok, If there was any problem it would still be the same so happy days!
