More of a job than we anticipated with lots of fettling checking adjusting cutting finnessing as is often the way with modifying stuff.
The diff takes around 1.5ltr of oil and your looking at Ł15 a litre for a quality oil.
I need to get the exhaust modified a touch as sits to close and catches the propshaft at the nose of the diff, otherwise everything seems good and I am very pleased with the result and general fit and finish of the kit parts. More urgency in the power delivery with the 3.9 ratio. Will be testing fully in the coming months

 

Looks great, who made the drive shaft adapters, not seen them with cutouts round the nuts like that before.

Cheers mate. Long day in the workshop to fit it up. Old diff was clonking and knocking had loads of slop in it. Everytime i planted it would be thinking the diff is about to go bang. Should be good for more power and to lay some rubber down now.

Can anyone confirm if i have used the right diff oil?
Been looking on a couple of supra forums. Seems everyone has a different recommendation or preference.
Seemed to drive fine. Will see what its like after some stick and heat in it.
What are you guys using in yours?

 

Bara told me ANY ls oil is fine...as you say there are many opinions.

 

Bara told me 80/140 slipper oil I got Castro stuff from jaguar they keep it on the shelf. Seems they tell different people different things they told me when I got it over hauled by them and the up rate kit fitted

Seems to be all good at the mo. I put new tyres on the rear just before fitting the diff and i think the tyres have impacted the high speed balance. Front tyres are possibly getting on 10 yrs old and rubber has gone hard. At least i think its the tyres and not the diff i am pretty sure it is the tyres unless anyone else has experienced similar with this conversion?

Supra diff drain plug
Changed the oil to motul ls300 75/90w and that's sorted out the unbalanced handling characteristics it had before.
So chaps for reference definitely use a 75/90 ls oil in your Supra diffs.
I'm going to change it again after a few miles and hope the swarf is minimal.

 

has the diff affected your speedo - is it still accurate?

 

It's not miles out. I am running 17" wheels though so the rolling radius is probably a touch bigger than standard.
At a guess it's about 10% out.

 

That's not a complete guess I did do a side by side with another car at 60. Mine read 65 the other car 60.

I will gps it at some point. Be good to know exactly how far off it is

Its a bit of a fiddle. I think one of the main things i hadnt really considered is the exhaust needs modifying to clear the diff properly.
We heated mine red hot, then with a suitable die squashed it in a large press to ovalise the pipe. Worked a treat to.

Don't cut any corners. If your using a fitting kit get a MT rear cover to ensure nothing breaks. I've found motul 75/90 ls300 diff oil pretty good and I've tried a couple now.

It has changed the handling characteristic of the car a little. Bit less stability on the rear when pushing on. Could just be my diff though. Got mine off ebay and it could possibly do with a refresh at some point.

What ratio is yours? As others have found previously the 3.9 is a real sweet spot for fast road.
