How easy is it to paint a cam cover? Do you need special paint to cope with the heat? Mine's looking a bit tatty now. I would obviously take the cover off and spray it on a bench.
I had mine vapour blasted, painted by a body shop and then machined back to get the lettering but you could easily do it the diy way but I would think decent spray from a proper spray shop in a can would be harder finish than normal rattle cans.
I had ago with some spray made up by a refinishing suppliers which I was happy with but wasn't 100% on closer inspection, and with these cars people get in real close to have alook.
Sent mine off to a place in Warrington I think....Headshop?? It's in my post listings, it was 100% perfect, factory green machined back.
Thanks lads. I'm not bad with a spray can and I feel confident doing it myself but I don't wanna spend loads of time doing the cover and then a few months later the paint starts to flake or look shit.
How about buying a second hand one, send it off to be painted to take your time and do yourself and then diy yours and sell it on to recoup some of the costs, that way you have no down time on your car or time pressures.
i would lend you my spare but it has been machined for coil on plug and cam trigger sensor.
I did the very same, bought another, stripped it and had ago so as not to e carless over summer....then sent it off after I wasn't 100% it would cut it.
Just started refurbing two spares I have in the garage. Had them lightly blasted to start with as one had been polished and need that roughness back to it. Few coats of Etch Primer, Few coats of RAL3020 then finished with 2 coats of Satin Lacquer. Block the top with 800-1200-2000 wet and dry. Stills needs going over with 2000 but finish is pretty good.
Cheers. The UPOL rattle cans have pretty good spray patterns these days and go on nice and fine. someone had decided to polish it in the past and rounded off a few edges on the spark plug holes and edge of the filler cap
