Default Car valuation.

Can anyone recommend any companies that will value your car for insurance purposes please? I've done a self valuation for this year but i'd like to get it properly valued. Thanks!

most decent insurance companys put you in contact with approved valuer, if its a RS people used to seek the registrar of the model to value it via that club

I thought it was the rs owners club that used to do the valuations providing you knew the secret handshake

Hi Glenn, is it insurance for your Saff ? I would advise that you go for an agreed value but make sure it is high enough as you are aware how much good ones cost now and how few are around. If your Insurance Company accepts your valuation they cannot then say its worth less if its stolen/not recovered or lost in a fire. I get my agreed value cost done at Tremona Garage who are Cosworth specialists in Southampton.

Yeh it's for the saff. I could say to the insurance company that it's only worth 10k where as it could be worth more.

When I insured mine I had a valuation done by the RS owners years ago at 8 grand. They told me mods can’t be taken into account. I had to come to an agreement with the insurance company at 15. They told me if I insure it based on the RS owners valuation I’ll only get 8

ajamesc.I hope you have now got it insured for a realistic figure, Ł8k is a joke!!! A decent high spec engine will cost more than that these days.

gcfcos It is important to list everything that has been done to your car so if the worst was to happen the Insurance Company can't turn round and say you have not given them the correct information.and try to void your claim!

Insurance Companies like to have a valuation from a Cosworth specialist to back up your own valuation. Shop around to get the best deal on an agreed value.

Last time I insured mine properly was about 6 years ago now it just gets renewed as I’m still waiting to put the thing back together. My official RS valuation I said to the guy the gearbox diff ecu brakes and wheels cost more than that lol. If your car is modified an agreement with the insurance is the way to go

You need to weigh up what it’d cost you to replace it.
Lets say it’s a 15k car to replace, plus and mods you have, wheels, suspension, engine build receipts, etc.
Leys say just as an example your car value and mods list stands at 25k.
Id get an agreed value of 25k on the car. Tell them that’s what you want.
I do that with Adrian Flux.
When I wrote off my saff a few years back they paid out the agreed value, no issues.

Cheers Paul

You are spot on Paul, my Saff 2wd has an agreed value of Ł25k as I would have to find another rust free one and then do all the same modifications as it's got now. I think it would cost all of that at todays prices.

make sure its a proper set in stone agreed value , agreed by both parties, and not just a worthless policyholders estimated value. ive been shafted by that in the past when I thought I had an agreed value! ended up getting offered the book price for a standard car and not the highly modded and restored version I had ! I got offered Ł500 for 5 year long modification and restoration project that cost me over Ł28000 !

Agree with you 100%. Deal with a well used and respected Insurance Company, make sure its all written down what you have agreed and then you will be OK. Been with Need to Insure for a fair while now and quite a few people with modified cars use them.

I had to have the capri independently valued early in the year as so many insurance companys state so called agreed value but its never fully covered to that amount as fuzzy found out, had to deal with lancaster classic insurance as the car was 40yrs+ they got a pro independent valuer to contact us to inspect it and the rest is history, you get what you pay for with car ins especially when it comes to classics or higher value enthusiast cars

Got an agreed value of Ł45k on the 3dr through Lancaster. Just submitted a form along with half a dozen photos of inside and out. Cost Ł15 extra on top of the policy .
My son has an agreed value of Ł15k on his MK1 FRS , heavily modded, all done via Adrian Flux.

Speak to people that understand Rs valuations Glenn like Paul Linfoot or paul at need to insure they both have a massive understanding and I think Paul Linfoot is accredited to give valuations with several insurance companies

seem to make it up as they went along, I fell within the scope and tax payments of the inland revenues definition of uk resident but that wasn't good enough for Adrian flux!
