Good idea, bad idea? Lexus GS300.
I have seen a 1999 MK2 Lexus GS300 for sale thats just in my price range.
For the past 4 or so years I have had my 2003 Mondeo 2.5 V6 Tiptronic. Ultra reliable, good boot space, good to drive, fast enough, parts are cheap and easily available. .....But after 4 odd years I am thinking of getting something else, maybe not the best idea due to how reliable my Mondeo has been.
If I was to buy the Lexus GS300 would it cost the earth to run, repair, parts etc? I like the look of the car, kind of classy yet aggressive front end as it is the Sport version. I only do around 80-100 miles a week maximum.
I wonder how the GS300 would feel to drive compared to my Mondeo, would it be better or a bit barge like?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice

I had a passenger ride in a mates lexus and I think that was a gs300, wasn't too bad but I found it cramped inside. I'm 6'3 and quite slim and just felt like I wanted to get out the car all the time. Shame as apart from that it seemed reasonable for the journey to London and back.

Sport means nothing, it's just a trim level, My IS200 is the Sport version, and other than trim spec, the only mechanical difference is it was only available in manual - and even then, the manual box was the same you could choose for the S or SE models.
Quality wise, if they're looked after they're bombproof. They're still pretty bombproof if you don't look after it. 2JZ N/A engine, and Toyota build quality. Parts aren't cheap as they've got Lexus tax on them, but apart from things like oil filters, you probably won't be buying dealer parts anyway.
My 200 is the nicest car I've ever owned, and most of the time feels completely tireless driving. Horrendously shit on juice, tax is a cunt too (£315 this year, expect it to be more next year as they continue to push it up in the hope of either pricing you out of it or you sucking it up and paying it)
