Almost at the point of starting to rebuild my cossie and always wanted to fit the full stainless as it was before but then have a y piece welded In with a butterfly valve and then also a wrc style side exit letterbox exhaust just for the extra sound when hooning 😉 I've seen a exhaust advertised for about £1100 but not seen one fitted to a saff

How you going to open the butterfly?

On my Escort rally car it has twin side exit. One has a silencer and a catalyst the other has nothing. My butterfly valve is controlled by the ecu on boost pressure. Below 0.5bar everything goes quiet and through the cat. Above that through both.

My mate had a saph with a side exit it sounded awesome. Bit noisy on a long journey though. Be good to choose between having it open and not

You can get electric solenoid operated exhaust valves.
I too have thought about them

Yeah the ones I’ve seen just open and close.
Very popular in the states apparently.

Cheers Paul

I think you could hook one up to a map sensor and have it open at a given boost without the ECU having to do it....or even a micro switch on the throttle position.

I don't have a letterbox one, but I just made the side exit for my rally car. Used a standard type aftermarket exhaust as a basis and, where it went round the fuel tank near the sill, chopped it and made up a section to drop out under the skirt. Had to put a bloody big silencer into it to get it to meet noise regs though. I guess a turbo car might not be so bad though.
