Default Pas fluid leak??

Having my weekly check in the garage and noticed some red looking fluid on the floor under the n/s/f.

The pas resivour is lower than usual so there's the answer....

looking along the run of pipework the hole lot looks covered...

There's no visible tracks of damage to the pipework, jubilee clips are tight.

It all looks original so do these pipes/rubber hoses go purus??

Any recommendations for replacement parts??

cheers

Check the power steering pump for leaks and also the power steering rack connections. You need to get it up on a 4post lift so you can see everything clearly.

Turned out to be a simple fix.

the smaller of the 2 hoses to the reservoir.....the hose clip was tight but on the last turn slipped a notch even though it seemed ok before....

cleaned it all down and fitted a new clip.....all's well now.....

It's nice when it turns out to be such a simple fix when it could have been a much bigger and expensive problem.

Tell me about it...sigh of relief to be honest.

Just like in plumbing, the fluid has tracked along diverting along everything it's touched.

Seen it so many times before in house with water damage, turns out to be a pin hole a few feet away yet gives the impression a resivour has burst.

Well in short the leaks back......looks to be coming here

so it's either the hose is weeping from the clip or the tank elbow is split.

Is there any drain points or is it a case of whip a clip off and pull the hose off over a tub??

Going to take it all out and investigate properly.

I did'nt realise you have still got the standard plastic tank. If you have been pushing and pulling tight fitting hoses on maybe the plastic elbow has got a small break in it. The trouble is now you will have to drain out the fluid to have a good look at the tank. Must be a pain after you thought the new clip had fixed it but that's cars for you!!

Yep, still got the plastic tank and the original hoses. I've done the same as before, cleaned it all back, left it and it's dripping off the metal tab that secures it to the underside of the inner wing. Cleaned it back and put paper towels on the neck of both hoses off the tank. No drips further down now but the bottom paper towel is damp with red fluid. The clips tight but not excessive so I think the plastic tube is either split or the hose is to blame.

Thinking about it, I'll just syringe the fluid from the tank and abit more to allow the tank to be removed, no need to drain the lot.

Small split in the inner of the hose. When tight there must be a small channel running through to allow it to pass. Tanks in good condition, though it did have a thick layer of sludge in the bottom. That original band/clip onto the metal tube was a pig to remove.
