The Ford and VW world seem to worry about this. Yes, if it was a pristine car, full original then I guess I can understand it but to me it is just a way to make the car go and 300 bhp naturally aspirated Vauxhall is a darn site cheaper to do than a 300 NA YB and IF you had the YB standard you could sell it to pay for the whole conversion. I can see this one is Turboed so less of an argument but if built from a shell it seems a much more cost effective way than sourcing a YB and making it work.
The heart of a Cossie would always be a Cossie...I do get that.
A MK2 escort with a BMW or Vauxhalll or Honda engine would not bother me at all.

I'm currently building a vauxhall powered capri, the engine cost peanuts, to get the same power from a pinto, Essex or cologne would cost me an arm and leg, i wouldbt entertain a boa because they are lazy and over rated, at the end of the day with that saph it's nuts and bolts its nothing that can't be reversed
In the rally world MK2 Escorts with 2.0 XE Vauxhall engines have been around and very competitive for years. It is unusual in a Saff but its a replica and seems a fairly tidy car for not a lot of money. Not my cup of tea but for somebody that can't afford a proper Sapphire Cosworth why not.
Thinking about it, if I could build an RS500 replica to be 100% accurate to look at externally, improve the suspension, standard interior and just a nice engine with better performance and modern costs / drivability I would be quite happy with that being a Ł10k to Ł20k car instead of the Ł50k to Ł100k originals.

It isnt a real cossie anyway so hes obviously not wanting to pay 4K for a smokey old 2wd engine thats on its last skim lol, personally I would of chose a better engine as those are chocolate, supra 2jz wouldnt look out of place

I agree with you, if it was a genuine Sapphire Cosworth you would be de-valuing it by putting the Vauxhall engine in it but it's not, so however buys it is just wants the look without the huge cost that a decent 2wd or 4wd is these days.
I did have a comment on a face book picture that someone else posted of my Pug and it was "waste of a good engine" so in reverse I got the same sentiment but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. In the same thread some idiot had said it was his car and he was getting ready to sell it.....I asked him why he had put that and he did not respond????

IMO that engine looks wrong in that bay, it’s ugly and just don’t look right, it’s prob just been done as a cheap alternative that has ok power, if the car was a decent replica it would really need a YB in it

It is a one off that nobody else has done before, it was'nt a Sapphire Cosworth, but for not a lot of money someone will have the look of a genuine one (apart from when the bonnet is up ) for a fraction of the price. If it was a genuine Sapphire Cosworth and some tosser had removed the YB and replaced it with the Vauxhall engine that would be real sacrilidge!!!

Don't see much wrong with it to be honest. If you want to make your car go faster, it makes sense as there are lots of these engines about and seems to be plenty of expertise out there. They can make decent power too. Vauxhall engines in MK2 Escorts is common in the rally world as, again, it's a cost-effective way to do it. As others have said, I can see why it might upset people if it was a factory Cosworth, but it isn't, so who cares. Fair play for making something a bit different that does the job, while avoiding "RS tax" along the way.
Having driven an Astra J VXR a couple of years ago, there was nothing "Poxhall" about it. I'd take one over a MK3 Focus ST all day long. But then I'd take a Megane RS over either. I used to be stifled by the Ford blinkers, but I managed to take them off a few years ago. Fords of a certain vintage will always be close to my heart, but there's a big world out there. Sounds like a few people need to try it

People rarely but sometimes jibe about the Peugeot, I admit they have not always been great but 1) they are still going and 2) the 205 helped define the hot hatch 3)309 and 306 also defined vehicle balance...you just have to have an open mind.
Fords have rusted, Alfa’s have rusted and been unreliable, Citroen’s are generally shit, Landrover electrics are shocking etc....most cars have pretty crap vehicles in their line up but every now and again we get something special.....like a taxi with a Cosworth Engine
