Has anybody used pcd adapters on a sapphire 4x4 cos??

Found a set of Bmw splits that have just been refurbed and just wondered what people's experience has been with using adaptors.

5x120 to 4x108 are available.

 

You would need to work out the Offsets of the splits and then see if the adapters push them out too wide. There are some good web pages that help work it out.

I used PCD adapters on a Mk1 golf to swap to Porsche wheels, they did work but even though they were TUV approved and huncentric they always felt a little out of balance. The Porsche wheels had very little dish so after adding 20mm (IIRC) adapters the ET worked out just fine.

If in doubt maybe find out the width of the PCD adapters, then buy some cheapo Halfords type wheel spacers of the same width and ask the seller if you can carefully offer them up to the car. There is nothing worse than spending a load of money on wheels and have them look odd with too much poke.

The one beauty with splits is obviosuly changing the outer rims to help move the edge in or out but it can all get a bit expensive.

MT motorsport maybe a good person to ask as he has done a fair bit with RS 500 / BBS splits I think.

I've also used them to great effect on a mk4 golf with some Porsche rims. Mine came from Germany with the wheels and worked out alot cheaper than buying in the UK!!

These I've seen are e36 rc041's so are 7.5j so that's a good start, only thing is there face mounted centre's which I know can be swapped back to rear mounted.

I assume I'd need to reduce the c.b to get them sitting correct then looking at the et there's little in it...

is bit the lower the et the more poke??

 

I think that the problem you will have is that the wheel will POKE from 55.3mm up to 74.33mm by the time you add the 20mm spacer

This assumes a 17 inch wheel

The inset will drop from 135.3mm to 116.3mm

Not looking to get into wheels hitting struts, arches rolled etc etc....

I would if it was for proper ford/iconic bbs wheel but the spacer/adaptor would throw it out to much.

What about getting some 20mm ply and cut a disc and hold it up to your wheel and see how it looks / moves? If you pop the spring out you may be able to jack the wheel up and see if it touches? Front may be easier to do.

On mu 205 we have similar issues and one thing we are considering is putting the alloy on a big lathe or milling machine and taking 5mm off the back of the wheel as it is quite thick at that point, this will bring the wheel in 5mm. You might gain 1 or 2 mm on the PCD adapter too but obviously it needs to be safe.

You may then try thinner outer lips if that works?

 

why just buy some of those bbs replicas for sale now as would mean no adapters and they will fit fine - ive got a set of Dare BBS Split reps on my 3dr and most people think thbey are genuine BBS lol

 

^This, I got lenso bsx for mine and they look great I went for the lenso because the centre nut Is what holds the cap on the same as the bbs so there isn't a random bolt holding the cap on, apparently the bolts are replaceable as well so you can customise but I've not tried
