1997 Mk6 1800 Escort Cabriolet - intermittent revving
Hi All - my name is Sharon and I have owned my MK6 Escort Cabriolet 1.8 for 11 years now! However, I recently had an issue with the revs dropping and the car cutting our. I had a new idle control vale fitted but after this was done, the revs would sometimes go up to 2000 rpm when I was either changing gear, or arriving at traffic lights. At that time, the revs did not drop quickly. I have replaced the crank case pipe as this was slightly collapsed which seemed to improve things. I also cleaned the throttle body and all connections, sprayed carb cleaner around all the pipework, joints etc and there was no change in the engine note. I have had the car on a superscanner which brought up no faults. I am wondering if this could be a temperature sensor problem as the actual temperature gauge reads correctly. Is there another sensor on the system which could be sending the wrong message to the ECU? The air cleaner and the pipe from the bottom of the airbox has been checked and is all clean.
I wondered if anyone else has come across this problem as any help would be much appreciated. Just to mention, car starts well and drives fine at speed and low speed, it's just this revving.
My only other thought is that it's the throttle position sensor and another temperature sensor within the system?
Thank you!
