Default thoughts? Escort cos

I’ll cut a long story short, first time I seen an escort cosworth fell in love!but must admit was a little shocked and disappointed after finding out it was only 220/230 odd bhp! At 26 found my self in a position to be able to buy one,39 now. So did! Over the years went on to spend way more than I thought I ever would on it! A bit here a bit there,it all adds up.so 45 grand later lol I’ve ended up with a 480 bhp car! Big discs re-sprays gearboxes clutches rebuilds etc etc. Not just going for speed I’d like to think I’ve gone about it the right way! I’ve spent big money trying to make it as reliable as I can where most just chase the BHP! Straight cut box,big breaks, hydraulic clutch,WRC head gasket and seals and so. When I started I said I want to make it a 500bhp car! At 480 I’m just short of that target. So I’m thinking of planning one last build! At the moment I have a two wheel drive head,so change it back to four wheel drive, new cans etc (top end rebuild) and an anti lag system! Any rough ideas on price? And over all general thoughts?

Good luck for that last 20bhp but if you are that close and have it reliable etc then I'd say enjoy what you've got. Unless it's some magical 20bhp I don't think you'd notice it that much vs the other 480bhp.

Are you using modern management and turbo/manifold? If not then that's where you should be looking - Cosworth/ i'd say any turbo engine tuning has come along way in the last 10 years or so!

Also probably more cost effective than anything else and you don't have to dismantle an other wise well spec'd engine that's known to be running well.

1. Has the car been live mapped?
2. Has the cams been dialed in correctly?
3. What turbo and management?
4. What exhaust manifold and intake?

500bhp now is really the norm but back in the day it costed a lot 8 injectors T4 cams ported head etc etc.
I remember being at a rolling road in approx 2006 with a well known guy and he was trying to get the 500bhp, And was shocked at some of the other cars figures for lesser mods.
I said you need that live mapped and set up. Once that happened he had over 500bhp and now runs excess of 700bhp!!! Why because you always want more.

Totally agree with Costina here. Very simple 500 now with a Borg EFR turbo but that extra 20bhp might just be exhaust and intercooler away after a remap....a lot of people use the Spec R cooler with good results.
