Had my saph out yesterday and the wipers have generated the annoying problem of not parking whenever you switch them off from speeds 1 or 2. They just stop dead wherever they are

The intermittent seems to work fine along with the delay adjustment.

I've not even looked at it yet, but could anyone point me in the right direction?

Aren't there two lives to a wiper motor? I'm sure it uses this to park?

 

Mine has it too, I still need to look at it. But I hardly ever drive it in the rain so I keep forgetting it.

Anyway, I think it must be something at the wiper motor.

 

I was kind of hoping it was just a relay sticking from sitting around.

I don't drive it very often in the rain either but it started tipping down on the way home from work last night.

The wipers generally seemed to be operating quite slow too. I'd say speed two was only a little quicker than the normal speed one you'd expect. Maybe the motor is knackered?

 

Try a new wiper motor, it sounds like yours is on the way out. I have had my Saff for 23 years and the wipers have never automatically gone back down to the correct position without some manual help. These days like you I dont use it in the rain if I can avoid it as semi-slick tyres, 450bhp and rear wheel drive dont really go together!!

 

There should be 2 lives so that when you cut power to the motor by switching off the wipers the second live allows the wipers to park and the park switch cuts that power when it opens as they park. Either the live has gone dead or more likely the park switch has failed.

 

That sounds like it could be corroded wiring or a bad earth.

 

Common fault with sierras now due to age a lack of use.
It will be the motor and the park switch. It can easily be cleaned along with teminals.
