Default Semi auto fiesta

Hi my wife currently is having trouble with her 03 fiesta lx semi auto, it is sometimes delayed between changing from 1st to 2nd and she sAid it made 2 crunch noises before she floored it and changed up into 2nd.

my question is we’re is the oil top up point on the gearbox! I can not locate it. The car has only done 20k fsh.

thanks in advance

It's behind the motors on the front of the gearbox.

Your problem is more than likely a seized actuator on the mechanism that the motors act upon.

Thread here where someones reamed the bushes out to stop the actuator being seized, it's the shaft that the missing motor in the pic acts upon where the problem is, be aware if you take it apart there's a gear that falls out and if you don't get it back in the right place it won't work again!

Only repair I have done is to replace the actuator assembly , but the part alone is £600 IIRC

If the actuator is replaced the transmission needs 'learning' on IDS which is the Ford main dealer tool.

The oil level filler hole can be accessed via the large hole in the centre of the bracket, the motor has been removed in this pic.

If your unit can be repaired - http://www.ecutesting.com/catalogue/...gsar7k004.html

Found an old thread where I had a similar problem https://passionford.com/forum/fiesta...asm-issue.html

I am suprised that with such a low mileage car there is this problem. You have to decide if its worth spending quite a lot of money on a 2003 car. Hopefully it may just be low on transmission fluid which is a cheap fix.

How would low transmission fluid cause this issue?

It's essentially a normal 5 spd manual gearbox with electronic shift and clutch controls.

As above the shift actuators are a known concern, the bushes inside the aluminium housing get swollen which makes the actuator sticky. Maybe lack of use hasn't helped in this case

I've linked above to a company that offers a repair for £145 should you not want to spend the £600 on a Ford new actuator assembly.

They must be wanting to replace the TCU as well (the control module)

Actuator was £600 last time I did one.

Without knowing the results of their diagnostic (specific fault codes etc) it's difficult to say what it needs exactly.
