I could never get my Escort Cosworth big turbo to run right, always had missing problems (ignition). Its been parked for about 14 years and now the engine wont run, its showing that the crank sensor has a fault and I cant seem to find the part online anywhere.
Anyway I have bought all the parts to do a stand alone aem- ems4 mamangement conversion running honda k20 coils and injector dynamics fuel injectors.
I'm about to have the car sent off to do the work but suddenly I'm having cold feet.
Is this tuning path widely done in the UK, any advice, any thoughts on doing this conversion?
From what I've been told by someone who had had the conversion done, it simplifies tuning and drivability issues and is the best option.

Crank sensors are available on eBay
The biggest cause of engine edc related problems comes from the 2 multi connectors on the inner wing.
most have been removed and soldered together also the mk5 escort fuse box was always an issue.

for around Ł700 you can buy a new loom and engine sensor kit.

 

With the correct Ecu and mapper it will be the best thing you can do just choose wisely

As above.but I think you don't many options or even tuners where you are?
If you have the ecu already then have that fitted.

 

The tuner has quite a bit of experience tuning road cars and rally cars here and so I'm confident in his ability.
The technician doing the conversion has done it twice previously to two Cosworths here without any complaints so I guess I will just have to trust him, bought the items to his spec and he is who the tuner reccomends.

I guess the trick will be to tune it to maximize the engine components but keep it safe and reliable. Its a 1 owner car but most of the mods were done so long ago and my father doesn't remember the specs on the things he got. Port and polished head, bored block, uprated pistons and rods, uprated big turbo.
With the poor quality of petrol here in Jamaica I think conservative tune is best.

 

in Jamaica I guess you have a different set of issues to consider than someone in the UK.

if you're keeping the engine / turbo standard its prob cheapest to buy a new harness and sensors etc. however, if you're wanting to tune it there may be no-one in Jamaica who has knowledge or ability with the stock ecu so aftermarket may be best. in that case, decide who is going to tune it and go with thier recomendations for which ecu to use

 

 

You never know you might be going again....

 

Having local support and ability with tuning is always the best option regardless of what ecu system.

The best ecu in the world is a paperweight unless you have someone who can install and use it correctly.

As others say, just make sure whoever is doing the job does have a good reputation at this sort of thing.
I'm sure the ecu is capable...but EMS4 googles as AEM, and I fucking hate AEM lol Their software is usually a nightmare.
