Default White Escort Cosworth Resto and Rebuild

Im sure most will know the car. Ill try and not bore you with the whole story. I was up at Harveys dropping off an engine and the car was sitting in the corner of his workshop. At the time Harvey and Jim I believe were going to repair it and rebuild its engine and sell the car as a whole. I must of declared an interest at the time as a number of months later Harvey gave me a call offering the car.

I bought the car and was well aware of it needing work but didnt know how much it needed! I never looked over the car properly the first time I just knew of the car and its resto previously in 2013. Either the car hadnt been looked after after its engine failure or the resto previously wasnt to a great standard, as going over the car after bringing it back it certainly was looking tired. The passenger door was bubbling, rear tailgate bubbling, front wings bubbling and every panel looking a different shade of white. Some of the bodges under the bonnet were quite incredible and outrageous.

So the car needs a thorough going over and sort out. The car still has some of its good bits previously the watercooled AP brakes, large Pro intercooler and rad setup and the remote reservoir Ohlins. The wiring needs starting again as its an absolute mess. The engine going in it is a freshly built 602bhp Harvey engine on a EFR 7670 turbo and 6 Speed sequential gearbox. I have a brand new quiafe front diff and 7.5inch quiafe rear diff in a harvey rear beam which will hopefully keep it all together and reliable.

Pics from when I picked it up.

The engine and gearbox were initially planned to go back into my previous car. I have since recently sold this car on, as good as its exterior looked, inside was a real mess and never done properly ever since it was in time attack. The cage was hand painted and to be honest the cage and the welding was of poor quality in my eyes. From a far its very acceptable or as a track car but I didnt think it was up to scratch mechanically compared to my other track cars. So as this car came up for sale and mechanically far succeeded the old car I decided to sell it on. I do miss the car though it looked super aggressive and did have some special carbon bits but by the time I had it painted inside and out, another engine and gearbox I would of been into it for 50k and didnt fancy that along with this one just for fast road cars.

mike rainbird didn't worry to much about his car being a polish queen sat in the corner never being used , his car had all the right bits on it to make it a well sorted track car ,it got proper used , this car was one of my favourite escort cosworths of all time .
looking forwards to the up dates on this build .
who will do the building and needed repairs .
will it get a full restoration ??

cheers steven

Hi Jessie will be keeping an eye on this thread. Are you caging this one or keeping it as is? I loved your old time attack car as you say it looked very aggressive.

Will be some car when finished by the looks of things, Not often you see a turbo hold the same psi of boost all the way through the Rev range.

Nice to see this car still about. Always liked it and wondered if it was still out there.

What did Rainbird move on to?

Thought I would update, the build up has been delayed due to other cars and projects getting in the way but its currently ongoing. Coilovers sent off to Ohlins to be rebuilt and AP calipers now sent off to be refurbed. Underside has been stripped and repainted parts have been stripped and powdercoated and refitted.

Now moving onto the sequential gearbox and engine bay then the dreaded sort out of wiring.
