Never seem to get a definitive answer to this one.
Benefit to turbo response apparently, but questions on the longevity of turbo life holding onto all the heat.
More heat transferred to the exhaust.

Probably, as they do get quite expensive from what I remember.
Also race teams will change or rebuild turbos frequently, since they have a budget for that.

I think I've got an expensive deli type one somewhere mate. You can have it cheap if I can find it. It's nearly new. I've used it and it never caught fire

I've heard they're good but you must allow the car to cool properly after a good drive to avoid cooking the core.

Depends why you're fitting it.

If you need some heat protection for surrounding components, then yes of course it's worth doing ( a good quality one, not crap )

benefits are those surrounding components get protected lol.

If you dont need one, then there probably isnt much point. Any talk of performance gains...I'd like to see some proof on that.

Have you had problems with your engine overheating the radiator? Unless you have some monster turbo and are driving flat out all the time I cant see you will have any overheating issues. You probably have already fitted a larger high flow aluminium radiator, pre turbo cooler, large intercooler etc which will all help to keep engine temps down.

There is no reason why your new forged engine, twin scroll BW and 2 bar of boost should suddenly give you over heating problems but if you feel you need for the turbo blanket etc go for it. Your car, your choice but personally I would get the new engine in and see how it runs first to determine if it needs extra cooling aids.

I have one on my turbo as it's situated directely underneath the fuelltank of my dragbike and it keeps everything surrounding the turbo a lot cooler and it doesn't smoke or smoulder but then again boost is applied in relative short bursts.

Different situation in your case and a worthwhile and safe reason to fit one.

I think I may send the turbo off for the rear housing to be ceramic coated instead .

Ive heard turbo blankets tend to make the exh housing more prone to cracking?

But I guess wether its ceramic coated or wrapped in a blanket they both do the same thing...

Ive heard warranties are void on some tubular exh manifolds when ceramic coated as again they tend to crack....

Cheers Paul

Anything that promotes heat retention within the metal will lead to premature cracking.
