Default Performance ford magazine no more?

Havnt seen performance ford magazine in the shops for a few months, have they finished or is it now online only? Hope it's not over as it's still not a bad mag and has been going for years.

That's a shame I much prefer a mag to read than just reading it online.

Just bought this months issue of fast ford Glenn and there's a few cossies in it.

I can't see the appeal of an online mag as you can view car related stuff for free anyway, build threads, you tube videos and online auctions ect.

performance ford going online is just a slow way of cancelling the mag full stop. soon as the profit begins to dry up as people desert the sinking ship it will be gone.

lots of mags going down the same route.

I stopped bothering with fast ford/performance ford a while ago when they stopped with stuff like the thrashes. Started reading practical performance car instead but have not got that in ages

The magazine industry is a tough game now. Readership numbers keep dropping as people read stuff online instead, so they lose revenue there. Companies are less interested in advertising in the magazine, as the readership is lower, so they lose yet more revenue there. The mag then has a lower editorial budget, so the things like thrashes become nonviable and they lose even more readers. It's a viscous cycle.

It's a shame. People seem to want snippets and easy to digest chunks of video content these days. Not much value in the written word anymore.

I agree, and it's a great shame, although I still pick up FastFord and Practical Performance Car magazines. A lot for me is actually making (getting) the time to read them, I seem to read snippets and come back at a later date, which I guess is the selling point of a good magazine, pick up, put down, then pick up again

That became my problem, what to do with them once read, not wanting to throw them away but ran out of space to store. A couple of years ago I switched to reading them on my laptop or tablet and would not go back!!

I have said it before the problem with some magazines is there is nothing worth reading, a quick look at the pictures and its done, bloody lazy journalists just copy and pasting shit that applies to any car.

A porn mag you want to look at the pictures a car mag you want a story

As a journalist, I do want to comment a little bit. It's a complex picture, as I said above. The budget simply isn't there anymore, as the web has really damaged the publishing business. This means that magazines are working to a much, much tighter budget. Due to this, quality is bound to suffer.

You are right though, there is some very poorly produced stuff out there. When I pick up a car mag and find incorrect facts, it does annoy me, because I try very hard to make sure my stuff is right. We all make mistakes but I do see some poor work out there. I picked up a brand-specific mag recently to read on a plane (I won't name it) and I was shocked by how poorly written it was. When it comes to brand-specific magazines, I think it's important to employ people who are genuinely passionate about that brand. People want accurate information and content that is written by people who genuinely know what they are talking about. Sadly though, there are a lot of professional journalists around and the business can be a bit of a closed shop, so the same people get the jobs and just move around the different titles. It can make things a bit stale.

There is no doubting that the industry doesn't help itself but, ultimately, if people want good quality car mags, they have to support the industry by buying them. That's the biggest problem. With so many people now choosing not to buy them, they will only get worse.
