Default Can anyone recommend an engine builder please ?

Hello folks,

My son in law has blown the engine on the family car . It's a 2009 Ford Galaxy with the 1.8 Eduro engine. They live in Havorford West which is a lovely place for a holiday but the garage services are a bit sketchy . Also , has anyone had any dealings with a company called the engineshop in Dumbarton ? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Probably easier and cheaper to pickup a good second hand engine and have a local garage drop that in for you mate.

Thanks for the reply , I think I'll have a ride to my local engine machine place to see if they have used anyone in the past. The thing I'm worried about is although you get your 30 day warranty my daughter is to far away for me to help so it's another cost to remove and refit if anything went wrong. That's why I would prefer to fit a recon unit

I agree that it would be better to buy a recon or scrap yard engine.

Recon is a fair shout if you don't want to go second hand and will be cheaper than paying an engine builder to rebuild yours, most motor factors can supply recon engines.

When you say it's blown... what's up with it?
Head gasket?
Hole in the block?

nice one, I'd not thought about motor factors.

Slammedorion,

She's put a rod through the side which in itself mystifies me as I've got a mate with a focus with the same engine which has done well over 200 k and barely sees a spanner or maintence and gets pasted regularly

Oh nicely done then
I'd just chuck a 2nd hand unit in as others have suggested, just put new belts etc on while it's out

That would be a very expensive rebuild, scrap that engine and as others have suggested either one from a breaker or a re-con unit.

Yeah, the 125ps 1.8TDCis have a habit of throwing rods and small end bearings. They also have two timing belts which nobody knows about and only one ever gets changed.

That said I bought a MK4 Mondeo 1.8TDCi on 100k when it was 3 years old. I had it played with and it was running 148bhp/400nm and was completely reliable until I got shot at 6 years old with 160k on the clock. It's still on the road now at over 180k. Engine was totally standard except I stopped using the Ford spec oil and went to Mobil1 0w40 Turbo Diesel and changed it every 5k with a full service every 10k.

That's the one! Mine was done at 108k by a Ford dealer and cost me Ł750!
If I kept it I would have had a chain conversion done for piece of mind.

Do you know what I thought the exact same thing. It was ignorance on my part as I've had one or 1.8 endura powered fords and although they are far from the quickest diesal I have found them reliable and trustworthy. I specifically picked a 2008 Model as it had this engine in and thought it would be good. And I leaned about this internal belt idea wtf !

Hello folks,

I'm still trying to get hold of an engine but I would like to hear it running but I dare not trust eBay so, the specs between the 115 ps and the 125 ps 1.8 Lynx engine are the same . Would I be correct in thinking the power is all in the head, turbo and ecu ? If so the 115 ps is much more avaible and would be worth buying to strip and rebuild and send it over to sunny Wales . I'd appreiciate it if you guys could shed any light on it please
