Default Sierra 2.0 GT 2wd brakes to 4x4 calipers ?

Hello all

My friend has a Sierra 2wd 2.0 GT and wants to upgrade to 4x4 brake setup.
Sourced some calipers , tried on 4x4 discs and the calipers don't line up with the hub mounting brackets.

Does someone make or sell conversion brackets for this ?
Or does he need 4x4 hubs , shocks & cv joints etc ?

The reason for wanting this setup is the previous owner took off the standard brakes , drilled out the hubs to accept mondeo v6 calipers so now cannot refit 2wd cossie calipers as the thread in the hubs is gone.

Anybody else done this conversion without changing all the hubs ?
Cheers
Clark

I don't think you will get 4x4 on a 2wd at all, sounds like you need 2wd cossie setup and some new hubs OR weld up and re-tap the hubs....needs to be good for brakes.

what about using 2wd discs as they have a deeper offset? that would bring them closer at least. why is he changing from mondeo calipers to cossie 4wd? surely they are the same size anyway?

On standard Sierra (so also GT) knuckles there is no thread, the thread is in the calipers. On 2wd cosworth this is the other way around. But normally it shouldn't be a problem to fit 4x4 cosworth calipers to standard Sierra knuckles. The only thing is that you need 278 mm discs with the correct offset, which don't exist. The best option is to use 283 mm 2wd cosworth discs and file the edge of the caliper to give it some more clearance (it will touch if the disc heats up and expands). You will also need some washers between caliper and knuckle as the offset is still not exactly correct.

The mondeo brake setup combined with the team dynamic 16 inch alloys are too far out at the front causing the tyres to catch the front wing lip. He purchased the car setup like this and wants to revert back to original Sierra parts with lattice cossie wheels to get rid of this problem.

We have tried 2wd discs & 2wd calipers which fit perfectly but as said no thread in hub to secure them on.

After doing a bit of research - to fit 2wd cossie hubs to this Sierra I will also need to fit the bottom arms which are pinch bolt type. The bottom arms on this GT are secured with a castle nut & split pin.

So will need cossie hubs & bottom arms

Use calipers off a frog-eye Scorpio 24v. They are the same as cosworth 4x4 but use an M12 bolt instead of an M10, so they will fit the drilled out knuckles. File the edges of the caliper carriers so they fit the 283 mm 2wd cosworth discs and put a washer betweeen the caliper carrier and knuckle and it is all sorted.
