Default Powerflex strut top mounts

Fitted these to my car approx 2 years ago when I carried out a resto on it and have covered less than 2000 miles in it, recently when driving to and from shows I've noticed when I turn left the car makes a rubbing noise when going towards full lock, only when I turn left.

Narrowed it down to the near side strut top mount and it's the Powerflex rubber mount causing the rubbing. It was quite dry so I've sprayed it to lubricate it but it's still making the noise. Remove it from the top of the strut completely and turn the wheel and the noise goes. Not sure if it's a dudd rubber mount it still looks new?

Anyone else experienced the same issue? I'm contemplating going back to the ford ones.

Matthew

It's probably the bearing at the strut top instead of the strut top bush.

I bought Powerflex and they were also shite, not even the same shape.

They didn't fit right and come in 2 parts, I sold them on and went with Group N bush which is the Escort Cosworth bushes, still available from Ford by the way for £11 each

Sierra mount is 6150277
Escort mount is 6720387

Exactly same mount only harder compound.
Group N means standard class so it's a standard bush

Great info Mike.I have also been looking for the escort group N rear beam bushes, Woodford used to sell them but cannot get hold of them anymore. I wonder if the escos genuine Ford beam bushes also Group N? I don't want to fit poly beam bushes hence the alternative I would like ideally.

Thanks. Lee.

This is a joke ^^ £11 from FORD

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-FO...3D310868133288

This is a joke ^^^ £12 from FORD

Woodford garage are out to make money simple as. I'd never use them again, I was told they had an O ring I needed for my modine, they priced at £5 plus post as they were NLA

I was charged £8 delivered, then I ordered one up from Ford as a spare and it came at 61p

Group N is simply standard nothing more - that's how it come from the factory, easy way to add extra value

Quote FIA - 'In relation to motorsport governed by the FIA, Group N referred to a set of regulations providing 'standard' production vehicles for competition, often referred to as the "Showroom Class".'

The rear beam bush was around £22 each from Ford a couple of years ago

Great info Mike, I bought the complete kit from Woodford £75, 2 bearing, 2 cups and 2 bushes. I will try Ford 1st then for sure.
You mention the rear beam bushes from Ford do you mean the sierra ones or later escos ones like the top mounts bushes we disgussed? I was hoping the escos items are also group N, hence upgrade on standard sierra beam bushes if you see what I mean.

Thanks. Lee.

I will check later Mike, I don't think they were the same part number from memory. I will report back later on.
ordered my front top mounting kit(bearings, cups and bushes) around £50 for the lot, much cheaper than Woodfords £75.

Thanks. Lee.

Mike, the rear beam bushes for escort and sierra part numbers are different, both NLA.
Sierra Rear Subframe Outer Bush 6141919 NLA
Escort Rear Subframe Outer Bush 6791604 NLA

I just checked my invoice and the front top strut mount cups, bearings and group N bushes came to around £43 from Ford which is almost half the price Woodford is charging.

Thanks. Lee.
