The streets of London - 1970
This Pathe video on Youtube is a delight for any fan of 1960's cars. So few foreign cars (the odd Beetle) and an amazing number of Corsairs, seemingly more than Cortina's. More Ford's than any other brand - and look out for the bus heading for Old Ford
I would have been 11 when this was filmed and as a Londoner much of it is familiar. On one of the buses there's an ad for Red Rovers, like a travel card today. During school holidays we would often get a Red Rover and spend a whole day hoping from bus to bus with no real plan other than to make sure we got home eventually. All for about 30p in today's money.

Cool video. It was nice to look at the old cars. Ford used to very popular back in the day and if you owned a bmw/merc or audi you were classed as rich.

Ha, that ain't fuck all compared to todays London traffic! I hate having to drive in London so much
What amazes me is the almost complete and utter lack of road markings for virtually anything - and everyone just drives wherever they want because of it
And do the cabs have blacked out windows?!

Remember these days well was courting the Missus who lived in London. Best bit was getting there pre 1967 without a max speed limit the M4 opened in 64 & made a race to London at flat-out speeds possible, mind you 110mph was fast back then. Imagine Chiswich to great Cambridge in sub 22 minutes that was my Target time on the way home in the 60's around the North Circular. Little traffic, no cameras, no cops interested as they could not catch you in there Ford 105e Anglias & only a couple of traffic lights. A modded Cooper S was deadly in 1967. Great Video of different days & sadly missed.
What a cool video. Love how everything seems to flow with so few traffic lights, road markings etc. These days everyone is sat stationary at a red light.
Last time I drove in London was last autumn. Hated every second of it, even at 10pm on a saturday night the place was almost gridlock. I really cant understand why anyone would want to live inside the M25 these days.

What's the convertible that comes in from the left then zips off into the distance at about 22 seconds in? Thought it was a Mustang, but couldn't be sure
