hi everyone just bought a saff cosworth with head gasket gone but cannot get head off due to being fitted with long stud kit but the holes in the head have not been machined out so cant get a socket in th the nuts! i have had two sockets turned down on a lathe but both have broken when trying to undo the nuts?? anyone got any ideas please???? thanks
I've used a turned down socket without issues.
You really need to have the socket turned down so it only just fits in, keep as much meat on it as possible.
it's a 200 block and i have measured the holes at about 23mm. not sure what kit it is as was already on when i bought the car. i looked on some other posts here and most are saying 18mm nut sure my one is 19mm do they do different sizes?

My mates just been through this the newer long stud kits are now using a bigger nut (19mm i think) and you really need to machine the head out, only way to get off is to keep trying with the machined down sockets.
Try machining down a multi point socket not a 6 side.
