Starting to collect together parts for a zetec turbo conversion, and need to source an ECU.
Has anyone got any advice in which brand to buy?
Have been looking at Omex 600 and also Mega Squirt.
Some are cheaper than others but all claim they are capable of running an turbocharged engine with the correct sensors.
Also need a reputable tuner in the Yorkshire area that can set the car up when finished.
Do you need to spend thousands on an ECU and loom or will the cheaper items with DIY looms do the same job, as I'm not bothered if I have to get the snips and multimeter out.
The engine is a 1800 zetec silvertop and will live in a MK6 Escort GTI. I am not to fussed about monster BHP, just something that will have the thrill to drive as my lightly modded ERST did.
Any advice on ECU`s would great.

 

Ask your tuner, there is no point buying an ecu that your chosen tuner is not familiar with.

 

Megasquirt, Omex 600, Dta40.

More important than make is who you intend to map it.
Mappers will have there favourite to work with and will swear it's the best.

The cheapest ecu may not be the cheapest install if your trailering it up and down the country to get it mapped.

Boost monkeys ecu looks like an option, shame all their recommended tuners are so far down south .

 

I think Rick (Unicorn Motorsport) on here is more up your way, he can map BM ECU's.

 

Omex is good, have installed a few of these 600/710 to various cars and their help if a problem occurs is brilliant.

 

I've got the Omex on my silvertop 1.8. ECU and loom cost Ł1k.

 

Stockport/Manchester. Well worth the travel.

 

DTA is fairly universal and easy to use. Stick a S60 on it.

ive fitted one on a 2.1 zvh turbo and another on a yb turbo in my mk1,

fantastic support via email and phone and the spec of the ecu is high no need for ad ons,

also any reputable tuner can map it or even do it youreself
