can anybody help, I have a 06 mondeo 2l tdci 115 which until recently has been brilliant, then we had an influx of common faults- egr, egr-intercooler pipe, turbo stuck, cat clogged and then injectors! So after some serious diy over several weekends aided by you tube and Mr muscle we sorted the turbo changed egr+pipe cleaned cat the maf and the inlet manifold(the car still starts fine) so now we remove individually and clean injectors, refit, bleed and she doesn't start, the rail isn't building enough pressure(30-40bars) this. The car is now at a back street and even they can't get it going and are now saying it's the pump! Seems highly unlikely as it was working before we carried out work....tend not to take their word, good lads just a bit dim! So any experienced help/advice would be appreciated

 

Has it got a full fuel filter? The HP pump has a LP side to suck the fuel into the tank, if you get too much air in it it can struggle to start, guessing you've bled the injector lines too, you can syphon the fuel filter from the return pipe to the tank.

Put a sucking device on the tank return of the filter and suck till fuel comes through.

 

hello and thank you for your reply, yes we pumped fuel to the filter and the garage bled the injector lines, I did tell them about sucking the return whether they have done this and not just leathered it with easystart hoping it will just sort it has yet to be seen! The aa said the same as you that it needs sucking through. I'm going down to the garage this morning so ill ask about that. Oh they couldn't have knackered the hp pump by relentless/hopeful cranking could they, just makes me wonder with these guys

 

All the air in the system out totally, rail producing 300-320bar...still won't start😒 throwing error codes for the injectors. We tried saving money by doing a job which was way beyond our abilities in removing and stripping them and I shouldn't be too surprised it didn't work. Anyhow I need to track down the best most rated reasonably priced injector specialist who can recondition or sell me some reconditioned injectors, can anyone point me in the right direction?

 

Turns out the injectors are shot☹ reconditioned ones please!

Be careful if you buy reconned injectors they need new codes on the side, if they don't come with new codes then they aren't proper reconditioned injectors, you can get them on eBay cheap, think I paid £270 for 4 Delphi re-cons through eBay, but be aware that people lost reconned injectors but all they have done is given them a clean.

 

The garage I have it with are getting me a quote on reconditioning my injectors, so already coded to car. If they can have them back to me early next week ill probably do that but if not I'll go down the ebay route. Thanks again

 

The codes don't work like that, they are a code that gives the ecu the correct injection quantity, it then uses this code and determines a set wear rate, so basically an injector should be coded when first put in and then never be recoded.

these codes can only be obtained from Delphi machines iirc, a reconditioned injector should have a sticker put on it with the new codes written on it, anything else will be a waste of money.

 

my money is on the fact that it hasn't been bled properly, the injectors on a tdci shouldn't be cracked open to bleed, they produce high pressure at the injector, around 150bar at crank, there is probably a lot of air in the lines from pump to filter, filter to tank, the fuel filter will need to be prefilled and then the pump return bled properly, its not unusual to take about 20-30 mins to do it if you've got as much air in as i suspect you have. ive recently done the same on a focus, it was a pain to bleed, i had to fill the filter twice and bleed with a hand primer.

 

We changed the fuel filter to a better one and had the fuel firing out at correct pressure but the injectors will not accept the fuel, sending up error codes,taking injectors apart was way beyond our limited skills. Got a quote today from a highly recommended place locally, who will do them for £90 each with 12 month warranty provided its not fuel contamination that caused damage
