Default Supra lsd oil cooler ?

Hi as my focos is going to be spending a lot of time on the track this year and it's running a supra lsd in the rear I'm thinking of putting a oil cooler to it . But I think it would be best to run it with a switch that when the oil gets to hot will turn on and off as it needs to . Has any one got any forts on a temp range it would be best for the switch to be looking for and no the best place to get a switch to do the job . Thanks

The S13 and S14 200SX both had a speed and temperature switch for the diff cooler

Surely you just need to look at the ideal operating temp rated on the type of diff oil that you have used. Opie oils on here could easily confirm that. Then find a temp switch and relay based on that. It might be easier to rig up the pump with simple on off switch and then a potentiometer so you can run the pump faster and slower and just leave it on and adjust to get the temp right?

The mocal pump runs from 70 to 150 degrees c so I imagine that is the correct heat range ideal for the oil. The pump says it is only designed to run with warm oil.

Personally I would just rig up a simple temp read out and see what it is doing before going to the expense of a cooler as it may not need it at all. There may be enough airflow under the car to keep it cool anyway and the cover in ally is a massive heat sink.

On the Nissan S13/S14 coole, it was a 2 stage switch.

You had to be going over about 6mph in the S13 to trigger the first stage .....plus the diff oil temp had to be over 130 deg C to operate the pump through the cooler.

The S14 was the same but the speed switch had to recognize 75mph to trigger....and then the thermo switch at 130 deg C as before.

They were the factory ones just to give you an idea of what the Nissan engineers thought were the operating criteria

I think a light used to come on in the S14 to tell you the pump was active. The light used to fail fairly quickly so many people weren't ever aware of it coupled to the fact that few people ever achieved the conditions to operate the pump.
