Default My Sapphire Cosworth

As some of you may of read on here my Sapphire Cosworth had been in storage for 10 Years, garaged Humidified etc.

I tried to take it for a M.O.T. before Christmas but on the way to the M.O.T station it blew the original radiator so i purchased a nice new chrome shiny one and installed it.
So all fluids were replaced, new radiator switch fitted etc.

I have been starting it regulary and i have noticed that it seemed to be missing only slightly, didnt really think much of it as i had a new Group A Coil ordered and new Distributor cap and rotor arm. I pressumed it was down to the time on the car.

I rang a Cosworth Specialst up who suggested i take it to him to see if he could advise.

9am This morning my car was trailered to his and he started to investigate. When the radiator cap was on the temp gauge would slowly climb to just over 3/4 of the way before the fans cut in, ok not bad! Tried to remove the cap and antifreeze just poured out, pressure build up.
Run the car with out the cap and the fans cut in just over 1/4 of the way, but again it seemed a pressure up, removed all plugs and number 4 was not so good.

He has since removed the head and reported the head gasket is nackered, my turbo has major play, one of the brake calipers is partly seized, anti roll bar bushes are not looking good either, staright after christmas as well.. OUCH.

More investigation work tommorow.

I am visiting the car tommorow so will obtain some pictures to share with you.

Im gutted

I wouldnt sell it.

The number alone i have had valued at 3k.

Would rather just spend the money and get it done correctly...

As much as it's an annoyance, I think it's all part of the fun, just draining on the wallet!

Did it stand for 10 years or was it running now and then?

I never turn a key on mine for months and it's always been fine

Hi Cossy Mike.

It was occasionally started and moved, but nothing major.

To be honest within the last 2 years i had just got so busy with work i lost the routine i had.

As long as they are started and moved then it would be ok..

Hi R4N.

When the car was run with the expansion tank cap on it sounded like a pressure build up, when the cap was removed it sounded like a normal cosworth.

Once the head was removed on number 4 where the gasket sists there was a indentation causing water to be passing hence why it kept spilling the antifreeze out.

Regarding the Bill its not an ideal time for me to be spalshing the cash about but i thought as i had it in storage a minor service would suffice, how wrong was i.
But will be worth it when i get in it and drive it....

There nothing worse than letting car sit for so long without turning a wheel.

With the repair bill higher than i ever expected we have decided to leave the exsisting chip in, everything has been checked and adjusted accordingly so its running as it should.

3.5 years isnt as bad as 10 Years, at first i was moving it regulary and so not to seize nothing up etc but as always work got busy and i just found i didnt have the time to visit whilst in storage...

Will be all good tommorow..
