I've had this about six years now it's been a work horse to a wedding car. After the wedding it seemed like the right time for a rebuild.

I haven't got any pics from all the welding on the sills, floor pans, bulkhead, chassis legs and other spots here and there. Hard to believe on a mk6 escort lol

Decided I didn't need a wheel well.








Eventually got it back on its wheels


Managed to acquire a main hoop that was supposed to be going into a wrc car 😀




This is how it stands at the moment new genuine wings bolted on carbon bonnet on I need to sort out the carbon roof next

 

Fook me it was rotton.

 

the amount of these I have broke over the years Stu and yours has to be the worst I have seen, must really love that car to sink those Łs into a gti

 

These will be the next big money classic........

 

It was a nice challenge lol as I do quite a bit of night work so I get a lot of days to myself so it keeps me busy. I just thought I would build something different and I might have a go at some hill climbs in it when it's finished

 

That looked awful! I'm scared to look underneath what my escort is hiding having seen that and mines older!
What engine plans have you got for it?Love the cossie wheels BTW, seem to be much more expensive than they were 10 years ago!

A lot of the problem was I paid someone else to do a lot of welding years ago and they done a crap job of it so I had cut it all out and start again. I've got a 2 litre silver top to go in hopefully on bike carbs.

First picture it looked mint, the wheels, the look, colour etc.

Shame to see it so rotten, the onion looks cool as well, defo looks better on the es cos rims

 

They both look cool on the cossies but problem was they would eat lower arms and wheel bearings

 

The orion looks well nice. Mk6 with a mk5 front end.

 

Yeah front bumper was split and the bonnet had sh1t paint on it so I spent Ł20 on a bumper Ł20 on a bonnet and Ł20 on lights. Looks pretty good for a Ł200 car

 

Orion reminded me of a pic I took last week in San Pedro on the Costa Del Sol. Plenty of old Escorts out there, rust-free and usually more battle-scarred than this one. Most are Mk6's - this was the first Mk5 Ghia I've seen.

 

not possible to swap to cosworth stuff to combat this?

 

No unfortunately they don't share any mechanical components

 

Plenty of work gone into that. I've had a couple of 2.0 Zetec MK6 Escorts over the years, they were good fun.

Like the saloon too. I really must get round to sorting mine out!

 

Really need to get on with this as well

I've got my bonnet aero catches finished now its definitely a nervous moment drilling into carbon ��

 

All four bonnet catches done

 

Some more parts fitted suspension and brakes are now complete minus front bottom arms and bleeding the brakes

Yeah fecking racecar ��

 

I thought I would build myself another work bench so I don't have to walk round to the shed every time I need the vice

 

So I started drilling holes in non structural place and made myself a tool to press a curved edge around the hole. The problem is now I want to put holes in everywhere 😛







Also I had to do something about the state of the rear Arch on the onion so I got that treated, filled and painted

 

More holes less weight
