Default Rear drums - series 1

Hi,

I have recently purchased a series 1 which has a rear disc conversion. I'm looking to change this back to drums. Are the series 1 drums different to other mk3 or mk4?

IIRC the series 1 had mk3 xr3i drums and hubs. the smaller engined mk3 and mk4 had the drums with the hub built in.

Mk4 xr3i drums and hubs might be the same as mk3

Series 2 Rs turbo had bigger rear drums, unique to the Series 2.

Can the series 2 drums be easily fitted to the series 1?

Can't see why not, but I have seen people post on here that the brake spring kits are obsolete or very difficult to find.

AFAIK, yes but I would suspect it would be easier to buy the hub and backplates for the conversion ; I am running a set on the rear of mine. According to a well known RST tuner he rates these more than the disc conversion which may be a little controversial!

I can check a few things if you wish. I think the hubs may be the same but I cannot say for sure. This is a pic of mine when I took the drum and hub off for the new bearings:

However, studabear makes a good point ; my springs (of a TRW brand) are a swine to fit to what I was taking off (sizes are wrong). I do plan to see if there is a correct supplier out there.

Out of interest, what are you running for front brakes and why are you changing the rears for drums?

If you really want drums and are not in too much of a rush, I am building a series one track car for someone on here soon. It's got the full rear drum set up still on it with all new linings etc.
I'm sure he'd do you a really good price on the lot, may even px against the disc conversion.

Must be for originality. I run discs on the rear of my S1 with a bias valve (done properly) and I wouldn't go back to drums. Car feels a lot more solid under braking now.
