Default ST170 passenger speakers keep going off.

Ive noticed a few times on my st that both passenger speakers keep going off. I can go over a bump then they will come back on.

It sounds like a loose connection to me. Ive had the passenger door card off and adjusted the speaker connection.

With it been both the passenger speakers i didnt think this would help.

Is there anything common to check before i look into it further.

Is it both the speaker and tweeter in the front door or the front and rear nearside? Give the wiring loom between the door and the body a wiggle. Might have water in it or something.

as yours is a 3dr my feeling would be stereo wiring harness or stereo itself as sub wiring is also on n/s

The nsf and rear speakers go off. The sub stays on. I wondering if its in the wiring loom. I just hope its not the radio itself cause i dont really wanna put an aftermarket head unit in the car.

If the speakers stay off i will use one of my other radios to eliminate the stand head unit.

biggest issue is the 9006 is the only one built to operate the sub, these and the 6006 are dreadfull for faults

Bit of a update. I tried another head unit(sony single din) and the passenger speakers worked. I tried the standard hu in and the speakers also started to work. Ive also noticed a crackle sound coming from the bass box when turning the orginal hu on.

The passenger speakers have gone off again. I wonder if there is a fault with the wiring. When im on earlys next week i will have a better look at this.

anything can be repaired if you have deep enough pockets, just look on ebay for how many 6006 units are sold with errors, 9006 comes up once in a blue moon and even then if its not got the special key to lock the mechanism for transport it can arrive faulty

I noticed last night when i swapped from radio to cd last night it started to play through all the speakers.

Im gonna check resistance in the passenger speaker wire then run a wire from the back of the head unit to the speakers then doing this will eliminate the wiring.

Well ive come to the conclusion that my head unit is at fault. I checked for resistance in the passenger front door speaker wiring amd it was spot on. I even put a piece of wire in from the back on the head unit to the speaker and it still wasnt working.

Ive plugged the head unit back in and all the speakers are working for now.

I will have to see if it can be repaired and how much it will cost.

back in the day at ford we have shelves full of these head units all faulty, and used to send them back for mass repair, the HU was a good idea but cheaply made with many internal parts of poor construction but saying that there are audio experts out there with the know how to recitfy this

The only other thing i can think of which would be cheaper than repairing the radio and thats to run the passenger speakers out of the drivers speakers. You can buy repair multi plugs and this would mean im not chopping into the cars wiring.

problem with doing that is your changing the Ohm rating and putting HU under strain as you will only be using half the power from HU and no longer in stereo mode either as it will become mono

You will overload that circuit Glenn as there will be half the resistance with 2 speakers on each channel , you may find it will go in to protect mode and not work at all or it will make the headunit go pop.

Bahhhh. Im tempted to take the head unit apart to see if i can see anything obvious.

If rhe worst comes to the worst i might just put my sony head unit in and use a amp for the bass box.

Know what you mean mate. There's a repair shop near me called maple audio I've used them a few times. They do repairs via post so if you have no luck maybe try them.

I think the fault with my radio is the volume nob. If i twiddle me know the sound on the ns speakers start to work. Ive been doing this for the past few days now and all the speakers work.
