Yep, you're right - base model gone up £1055 to £29999. Milking UK customers for all they are worth as usual. Bearing in mind that they are all to be built in Germany, those for the US and Australia will have shipping costs that are considerable I guess. But the cheapest country to buy one is the USA. Here are some prices for the base model at today's exchange rates:

UK- £29999
Spain - £29093
Germany - £28057
France - £27769
Italy - £27697
Australia - £26154
USA - £23296

Note that the two countries with the highest costs of getting them there are the two cheapest in that list! And yet they feel the need to sting UK customers for an extra grand!

There are dearer places than the UK - feel sorry for our Irish cousins, at £37122, and Norway at over £55000 (!) but at least they - including Ireland - get better options, including heated seats and heated steering wheel. Some countries have different wheel and tyre options, and I count at least seven different seats, including the 8-way power option you can have in the USA.

Some countries that I looked at don't have the RS available at all (yet?) including Canada, Brazil, Argentina, new Zealand, and South Africa.

One thing is certain though - if they can afford to build in Germany, pay to ship to the US and sell at nearly £7000 cheaper than here, we're being Treasure Islanded as usual.

Base price OTR for the Golf R is £31k-£33k but there are deals to be had I believe (or there was). I was only interested in a Golf when they had the crazy lease deals on but decided against it as not really what I wanted.

Ford did this with the Mk2 as well, there is a thread over on the focusrsoc showing how it had 4 price increases in total! Rumors are that this won't be the only increase on the Mk3...

The Mk3 is actually well priced for what it is, a mate of mine has an Audi RS3 and that would have been £10k+ more, especially when you start to look at the big options list.

Iirc the mk2 frs had a price increase around May 2010 when the vat increased 5%,thanks to mr darling dropping the vat from 17.5% temporarily to 15% then increasing it permanently to 20%

I am amazed that ballbags42 is talking about spending over£34k on a new FocusRS I must be out of touch with just how much new cars cost now.
I have been for a test drive in a new one( and got told off for driving it to fast by the salesman!!) but as I told him I wanted to see what it went like compared to my 450 bhp 2wd Sapphire Cos. It was very smooth, easy to drive, but did it excite me? No, is the easy answer.
I will be sticking with my old fashioned Sapphire thanks very much!

Ah right I didn't realise they were available to test drive so I retract my previous statement

Ford have only put the price up to what most sources thought it would be at to start with.

It's just given those that put a deposit down early without so much as a hint at price / spec and got their order in before the 8th October (with cars allocated by Ford UK to dealers / specific deposit customers) a little discount for trusting that it'd be what they wanted.

No one outside of ford have driven the mk3 frs yet?

The press will need to get their mits on it soon.

I am one of the 'bawbags' that have put a deposit down on a car I have never driven. That is the chance you take if you want to be one of the first. I know plenty of folk that put their names down on cars that they have never seen/driven etc. Any of the special Porsches arel sold that way GT3s etc.

Yes I do believe some of the price increase for the mk2 did come from the vat increase.

£30k for a new car these days really isn't that much. Yes £30k is a lot of money, I don't have it stuffed under my mattress or anything but when a pimped up Range Rover is £120k or a decent 911 over £100k then a £30k super hatch is not a crazy amount to spend. Add to that the fact that anything with the RS badge tends to have pretty good residuals.

I don't think 30k is a lot really since I'm paying best part of 50k for a RS3!! Just an A3 at the end of the day.

Would love a test drive in the new FRS though. When is this happening?

Press get their mitts on the steering wheel in January, they all got a passenger ride this week and appear to like it so far

Example here

The price difference will be local taxes more than the base price of the car.

Most cars are build in a different country to the one they're sold in.

80% of the cars built in the UK are exported.

Toyota build cars in the UK and ship them to Japan.

Moving a car is relatively cheap when you can fill a whole ship with them.

Dont see what your problem is , as I said the Focus Rs I took for a test drive wasnt the very latest one but it is still the one that at the moment 99% of owners are driving. My opinion of my test drive, if you dont like it bad luck.

Considering an Escort Cosworth was £24995 over 20yrs ago with 225bhp, giving around £30k in 2015 for a more practical 345bhp is much better value!!

And the whole 5dr tarted up focus thing is getting old. Seriously?? A saph is a tarted up sierra ghia and you all pull your plums off to them. So why the hate towards a mk3 FRS.

You would all be complaining if they never made an RS anymore. No thats a lie actually, you would all be happy as you could exaggerate your RS values/taxes even more than what they horrendously are!!
