Whats a old mini worth?
Hello,
So my dad wants this mini cooper that he has seen but i think the sub frame has gone and we are not even sure it runs but only has about 50k on the clock. Its just a 1.3i in green, the inside does look in really good nick think its on a 1992 plate.
The bloke wants £1000 for it and i think thats bit rich for it but what would something like this be worth once restored and whats its worth now?
Also he has a austin maestro with 19k on the clock
shame there just shit from new anyway

Sorry no pictures.
Cheers.

Sounds high for a 92 tbh, but you are paying for the Cooper name. I bought a mini mayfair in red for the wife last year, mint interior but needs welding, an 89' I paid 500 for it
I told him if we need to spend 2-3k on it then its just not worth it. He seems to think its a bargain and looks in his old car mags and have seen some in there for about 10k... Living in a dreamers world i said.
I just told him that you paid £500 for one and he said lets go round there and look at this one to see what work needs doing to it. I had a quick look and it needs new wings for a start then subframe plus rust bits here and there so its going to cost paint too!
Best part about it all is he said "well we could do a deal and get the maestro too, old cars are worth money!"

From what I've seen though a cooper does not make it worth a lot more than a mayfair.
Well we are going to have a good look Monday or Tuesday night and i think it will be too much work for him anyway.
Ill keep you posted.

Prices have really gone up on old minis recently and doing a subframe is not a massive problem if the shell is ok, rot is the problem with these things if it's a nice rust free shell it's worth a fair bit.
My sister's old original mini was a total rust bucket, new wings, inner/outer sills, floor pan, full respray and it blew an engine, brakes failed, but she loved it, she must of done, cos she spent fortune keeping it on the road.
Wisely, she saw the light and replaced it with a new Ford Fiesta Mk3, which has been totally reliable for 26 years and it just passed another MOT recently, what a star!

An original car with little mods on a 1992 plate sounds reasonable to me. I paid a grand for a wreck of a special edition and if it's complete it's not a bad price. It isn't MOT'd mini money either that. If it has a 1275 it's probably better vfm too. On a 92 plate it'll be AP 2 pots on the front, servo, 2 or 3 clock dash. What model is it? And most importantly what's the bodywork like? Wings aren't a big issue but if it then needs A panels and door steps it's not too good. A new subframe can be had cheap but then you take the subby off and it could lead to finding rotten closing panels, rear valence, heelboard mounts etc.
