Default Mondeo MK3 2.5 V6, any good?

I have just bought a 2003 Mondeo Ghia X 2.5 V6. Reason I got it was it was just down the road and going for cheap....Plus being an auto which I need for the next 14 weeks whilst having Physio.

Are the 2.5 V6 Duratec engines any good? I had a MK3 Mondeo some years ago, it was a TDCI, great car but injectors failed and was silly money to put right.

I had an ST24 with the same engine and it was spot on. Very torquey low down which made of effortless progress. The MK3 is a little heavier and with the auto box it may not be so sprightly but it should still be "spirited". A good choice imo

I have read about the front small box on the inlet manifold failing thus only giving 18 valves after 3,500rpm instead of 24 valves......Ever heard of this?

Its early days so I am not expecting amazing MPG figures but what on average can be seen from these engines?

BTW..... Always loved the ST24!!

Also....Any ideas what this belt is for?

The imrc is the black box that sits on the front cam cover. Ive emoved a few of these and located them to the battery tray.

That small belt drives the water pump.

These are a good engine if looked after ie regular oil changes.

Thats the one bud, little box that sits on the manifold.

She is an 03 plate with 68k on her with full history. Lovely car to drive, I know the MPG is not going to be the best but hoping it will be affordable as really like this car.
