Default Best place for forged pistons?

Good evening,

The time has come to buy my 80.5mm forged pistons for my Series 2. I already have the H-beam rods, and want to know best make/place to purchase them.

Ive priced up the Accralites from Burtons, and Wossner from ebay, is there any other brands/companys to look into?

Cheers
Wayne

Wossner would be my choice, the Accralites are a little noisey from cold (even with the correct tolerances).
Also make sure where ever you buy them from actually has them in stock before handing over you're hard earned.
If you've not thought about compression ratio yet just worth mentioning that standard is fine unless you're going for 300+BHP or you have a heavily decked block and skimmed head of course.

Im only looking around the 220bhp mark as im still on MFI with a fifth injector and cossie t3 etc.

I broke the ringlands on Number 3 back in October (had standard Mahle cast in), so im doing it more for piece of mind than big power.
My head has had a light skim, port and polish, bigger inlet valves and a kent cam done by AL Developments in Leeds.

Broken ring lands is a common sign of detonation, make sure you get the car setup once you've got your new engine in mate.

Yeah, Jamie at Evotune looks after my car, and it had been set up only about 4 months prior.
TBH I was having a "spirited" drive with a colleague, and was trying to break her anyway ..... Was looking for a excuse to pull the motor and do a total refresh. Ive since bought MF2 injector kit, stage 3 head, cossie t3 and Collins are taking the Ahmed Bayoo chip off, for one of there unlimited boost jobbies.

How do you mean mate?

Ive gone with Wossner, getting them at a fantastic price from a Wossner authorised dealer in Italy.

because you said this above.
Unlimited chip and MF2 with cossie t3 and whatever else is not going to help your brand new engine after the build. Without sounding like a dick an old rattily cvh with a decent management would be on par with you if you did do that above. Trust me I have one here been waiting for it to die for a while..

Where as you might do what you stated and blow the thing to pieces. Most of the time the mfi will go out of sync. When, how often, who knows? only experience with the car and engine will tell you that.

hope that makes sense.

Totally makes sense. And I appreciate your time and answers.

I did consider going efi, zvh, zetec etc, but i really wanted to stick with what was meant to be there so to speak, as im a sucker for old school. When I set out with this Series 2, I wanted to have a car that looked, feels, smells, sounds, and goes like they did in the 90's.
Im under no illusions the work need to keep the Bosch KE reliable, and I dont want to set any drag records, just a nice, clean weekend car with 200bhp.

Besides, everyone is going modern, thought Id break from the norm ...

Oh, and I paid £400 inc shipping, for 80.5mm with rings and pins. God bless the crappy euro

shipping is prob plus tax?

Its not that cheap for a little more you could of had rods and arp bolts which will save having to do machine work to pistons.
