Default Help with k jetronic fuel distributor/or injectors

Wondering if anyone can help?!
Need some advice or a point in the right direction to someone who can give me advice (preferably local to the northwest).
Been having a startup and running problem on my 89 MFI XR3i since I bought it (hence the price I paid), the car struggles to startup up and when it does it idles up and down and definitely is lacking in power. Basically the short story is I've gone through all the obvious parts that could cause the problem and I am left with either the injectors or the k jetronic fuel distribution unit being the culprit.

Before I go spending any money on a new set of injectors or even more money on a refurbed distribution unit I need to be absolute certain on the cause, as most people to give me advice or look at the car have had an educated guess!
Can anyone give me some pointers on refurbing the unit myself? Or know a local specialist who can?!

Have you actually had the fuelling/timing checked and setup if required?
If so, it would also be worth checking fuel pressure etc. Diagnostics can save you alot of time (and money)

as above. you really should get it checked by someone who has experience.

my advise is dont buy recon metering unit. buy a good tested checked unit secondhand. Dont just buy any random one tho. Find someone doing a conversion whos unit has been working with printouts etc of co%

they are out there as I take them off constantly. however I guess only 1-2 out of 10 would be good enough to warrant buying. Not that im selling!

Don't buy anything just yet, it sounds like you're hunting and so rich or lean, any garage with an MOT station can check and adjust your mixture at the very least and go from there.

This sounds so much like the base fuel mixture is wrong that if your local, call in and I will do it for free. If it's not that at least you have ruled something out.

Thanks for the replys guys!

Yeah I really do need someone who knows what they are doing to look at it! I'm sure someone with an experience in the mechanical fuel injection would spot the problem straight away. Problem is mist garages I've spoke to local ate scared to touch it because a laptop isn't telling them what to do!

Where about are you based Stu?

id take msd up on that offer pal. anyone else will charge at least 80 quid for the pleasure of tuning your engine. Think how long it will take to test your your system out, set fuel pressure, checks on timing air leaks etc. Then fitting dett cans and driving up the road. If all thats done for free mate id be waiting at their doorstep since yesterday. Awesome stu nice to see some people care more about fixing cars than making loads of money.

Default k.tronic

i may help here .....the ktronic system relies solely on good fuel pressure, it should be around 5 bar, there is an easier way to check roughly that the pressure is good ..switch off the pump and disconnect the fuel return line under the bonnet get a short piece of pipe and a suitable jug /container ..now you need the pump to work continuously easy way is to bridge the terminals 30/87 on the relay short piece of cable will suffice ,before you turn on the ignition remember the pump will be running and fuel will/should be flowing to the metering unit..... safety first ..might be better getting some assistance, place the pipe in the container turn on the pump if all is good it should be filling at a rate of approximately 1 litre every 30 seconds any less than this indicates that the high pressure fuel supply circuit is weak and not able supply sufficient flow at the system pressure .. if so it may not be the pump at fault other areas to check ..filter /accumulator check all pipework is acceptable from the tank to the metering unit remember safety first

why not just fit a fuel pressure gauge? even cut the end off a tyre pump and use the gauge off that will do.
