I know it's passion ford but I've stumbled on a v6 calibra that seems to be a good little project are these things any good....will it rise in money....seems like if it was a ford it would be 5 times the price due to the following old fords have.

 

I don't think there is a lot of love for them, they were cool for 10 minutes though

 

theres a reason many vaux cars dont have any value or fan appeal

To be honest I was only interested cos it's pretty much rot free and sounds sweet.....plus it's cheap....

 

Have a look on ebay see what they fetch, go from there?

as with anything check ebay, retro rides etc then go from there. Good one's are getting rarer

 

I must admit I've always had a disturbing fondness of the cavilier coupe.

 

At the end of the day if the car is in good condition and cheap as well buy it. It is never going to become a valuable collectors car but does that matter ? The V6 engine should be pretty good but it will be quite heavy on fuel. Sounds like a car worth having to me.

I always wanted the turbo back in the day, I remember my dad's mate had one as a company car and I thought it was amazing when we went out in it

 

doesn't matter what it is or how shit some think it is theres always an owners/ fan club somewhere for it.
I expect the love for these old Vauxhalls will be on par with the love for the old fords you see on here.

 

They will have the same fan base as here you just don't explore it as your a blinkered look straight ahead Ford man . Ive had very few Ford cars but a fair few Vauxhalls. Baby Bertha- Big Bertha/ Jerry Marshall one of my all time racing combo, great days.
Heres a story that you will find rather strange. Was asked to take my car to a Skoda club day along with several other cars. Parked up, polished up & then watched as 1000's of lads simply marched past without a look at an old Ford. There dream cars a row of Skoda's in various guises of nothingness. I shut the bonnet & joined them & realised outside a very blinkered Ford brigade the Worlds Fastest Cossie meant Jackshit.

 

Funny ol' world isn't it, what seems like an incredibly well known car to us lot is just another Sierra to many others.

 

that's the thing, what you consider an incredibly well known car is only in ford circles. no one on the bmw forum will care.
and every clubs generally the same. the masses are in it because that's what they like.

 

I think old skool petrol heads (quite a few on pistonheads I see) would still give a cossie a look, they are iconic, most youngsters wouldn't though, not unless you had it on airbags and 8 degrees of negative camber on the rear that is!

 

Always had a soft spot for 4x4 Turbo. Quite fond of Vauxhalls from the 70's too. Even though Im a Ford man, Ive had a load of oddities over the years, and Im guilty for really liking cars from the British Leyland stable, and big V8 yank tanks.

Id say buy it, do it for experience instead of profit, and then you can say you've had one.

 

On a Vauxhall forum somewhere there will be a thread about anyone liking Ford Probes (or Cougars).

 

I wouldn't even consider a probe or a cougar to be honest......ford or not they just don't appeal.....

 

I quite like them for what they are, had a nice one in a while ago - one of the rarest around. The DTM.

I quite like them too. A few years ago I got offered a 4x4 turbo one that was mint and cheap and turned it down but now regret it. Even if I only kept it for a few months to say I had owned one for a bit.

As for a probe/cougar discussion somewhere, I fucking hope not. That shouldn't even be allowed on here

As said. If you like it. Buy it. I bought a 92 plate mk2 golf gti 16v 3 door. Big bumper for a cheap classic. Have realised its shit. So have abandoned it at a mates salvage yard.

And now want another mk3 escort. But have shot up in value so much I can't afford one.

When they came out when I was a kid (around 1990?) it could have been a Ferrari I thought it looked that cool lol. Now not keen on the looks but love mk3 cavalier gsi etc

 

I've always wondered why the vauxhall lads always remove thier badges and replace with opel. Subconcious shame at owning a vauxhall i guess.

 

Part of the "euro" scene, there are some quite cool opels, like the manta and the ascona, actually they are the only 2.

 

The mk1 and mk2 Astra gtes are 2 of my all time favourite cars I have to admit lol

 

had a v6 calibra for 5 years as my daily did around 80k miles in it numerous trips to south of france. absolutely loved it but as with most vauxhall stuff rust was the main issue. engine had 200k miles on it when i sold it and ran spot on had it on a dyno at 175k miles and pulled 180 bhp on a run would get around 36 mpg big comfy seats plenty of room in the front and back and a huge boot. but as i said rust is the problem footwells seem to suffer as do the bottom of the doors and under the plastic skirt on the sills

 

I quite like the calibras (wouldn't have one though) An old boy up the road has a mint yellow one uses it daily never see it over 40

I'm not a fan of vauxhalls at all, always been a very boring car to drive although I did once have a mk1 Astra gte in White, loved that.
Always quite liked the shape of the calibra and the v6 was arguably the best engine to have, all cars have a following and it's still nice to see the cars we remember from years back on the road no matter what they are, we're all car guys/gals or we wouldn't be on here.
I'd buy it and sort it no worries, just doing an old Saab myself and I doubt many will care for it but I'll still make a few ££ on it.

 

Lot's of love for them, quite surprised. I absolutely detested them back in the day. My mate came round my house one day and said "guess what I've bought, you won't like it" guessed it first time.

I don't know what it was about them I found so offensive, but the look just turned my stomach. This was 20 years ago and it was rotten through then! It did go really well though for just a 2.0 16v, it really seems like the aero of it made a difference as it used to get a good wiggle on over 60 and seemed earily quiet doing so.
